Have you ever hated a new job so much...

that you give notice after only a few weeks?

I just moved to a new state and I took a position in a dental office (I'm a R.D.H.) that I had some misgivings about. I really should have listened to my inner voice!! I was worried because right now there are so few positions being advertised because of the holidays ( around here everything seems to grind to a halt in December) so I took this job. It is the most unpleasant and tense offices I've ever been in. I do not fit in and the dentist and I do not have a good rapport. I've been there for a total of 5 1/2 working days and have gotten two migraines from stress. This morning I was so uptight about going in that I was sick to my stomach. Money's tight because of the move so I haven't just walked out plus I don't want to appear unprofessional.
The day I started, two assistants started also. One has already left, the other is thinking about it and said this office has a rep for having a "higher turnover than a restaurant."
Ugh, I can imagine how horrible it's going to be when I give notice...he probably won't let me work it out and I bet he'll be plenty nasty about it!

I've been in that position before, and it s*&^%! Honestly, waking up and dreading going into work is the worst feeling in the world. You have to do what makes you HAPPY - whatever that may be!! Good luck!

If I were you, I'd quit now before you get anymore invested there.

Been there. I once tried to do some per diem work at another hospital. While the staff was friendly hated the way the place was run and they seemed desperate to pump a lot of hours out of me. Luckily since I had another job already I chose to burn that bridge and just left a message with the manager that I wouldn't be able to come back due to scheduling conflicts. I felt guilty because it really was wrong of me to take the position in the 1st place (I had that gut feeling too) and waste their time and mine.

I felt that way about a job once after 1 week. It was my first f/t job after I graduated college, but since it was so hard to find a job in my field I took a job in QC. It was the WORST!!! I stuck it out and searched really hard for a new job, and found a great one that I loved a few weeks later. I was only at that first job for 6 weeks total.

I moved OOS to western PA in August, It took me 2 months to finda new job, and I took the first one offered to me. I hate it. I have nothing in common with the people, its an hour away and it bores me. But we needed my salary, so I've been dealing, all while applying for new jobs.

So tommorow after 1.5 months, I intend to give my 2weeks notice and start what will hopefully be a much better jon on January 2.

Quit. If you need a salary, look now, and use the idea of a new job as a way to get through.

my advice to you is, do not quit until you find something else. especially if money is tight.

hang in there... I know it *****, but you have a steady paycheck coming in.

Had I waited any longer, I would have hung myself.

I quit a job after one day of training. It was retail and I was a teenager.

Yep-I left after a few weeks..I never hated a job so much before that I was just MISERABLE!!!

Thanks for all your replies/advice. Right now I'm sticking out till I get a new job. We can't really be without my salary right now. But I soon as I get a new position...adios! It's a good thing the doc can't read minds because about three of us there are wishing him a not so happy new year!

I've been there. I knew the job/company wasn't right for me after my first day. I hated that feeling. I was miserable.

If money is a bit tight, I'd stick it out for a while longer and ACTIVELY look for something else.

Nothing wrong with admitting that something isn't a good fit. It's obvious that this position (office) isn't for everyone.

would it be better to just take a retail job or a restaurant job for now just to get out of there while you are looking for something in your field?

I was resigned from a job...gave two weeks notice BUT everyone was so miserable to me that the Thursday of the first week I told them that the next day would be my last day! Screwed over my beoch of a manager who was on vacation! I was happy!!
