Re: HSG - how bad, really?

The actual procedure is only a few minutes. I had some pain for about a minute but it was over before I knew it. I think I am the exception though as most ladies on here will tell you they had little to no discomfort. If you do a search I replied to someone's post recently (Bxgell I think?) and outlined the whole thing step by step.

Good luck!

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

I had some discomfort during the procedure and felt a little achey afterward. Nothing some Advil didn't cure!

Took only about 10 minutes for the procedure.

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

Mine was very unpleasant for about 5 minutes. Once it was over, it got better quickly.

Take some advil and just remind yourself it will be over before you know it.

Good luck to you.

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

For me, it was easy and quick. I did take a lot of advil that morning (a dose of 2 a few hours before, then a dose of 3 right before) The radiologist at Good Sam was AMAZING! it did not hurt me at all and was over before I knew it, maybe a total of 7 minutes including prep. My tubes were not blocked so I do not know if that had to do w/ it or if all the advil helped, but honestly, the anticipation was the worst. I went to the supermarket and did shopping right from there.

good luck...

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

honestly it is different for everyone. I didn't have any pain at all, but a lot of girls experience cramping, which they say is less than 5 minutes. good luck! just take advil or ibuprofen

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

No pain at all for me. A little cramping after, but a little Advil took care of it.

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

There was about 20 seconds of horrible pain. (I didn't take any pains medication before though).
I had cramping and spotting for 2-3 days afterwards. It wasn't that bad, don't worry!Chat Icon

I think, and I'm not an expert, but it appears that those who have a blocked tube feel the pain more. Not sure though.

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

Mine hurt a lot when they clamped down on my cervix. I had very very mild cramping after the procedure. I have one blocked tube.

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

Totally depends on the person. I have heard great stories and horror stories, the thing to remember is it was QUICK.

I was in a whole lot of pain. I couldnt even move and felt violated and horrible afterwards, but I 100% heard that I wa s the minority and my cervical scarring led to that pain...BUT On that note, I was told it would be a breeze before hand and didnt liek the shock I got.

SO I think I would be prepared for the worst, remember its FAST and then hopefully like the majority , get a quick and eays test! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

I've heard differing opinions, but mine wasn't bad at ALL. The only discomfort was trying to get the catheter in - the RE was telling me that she was injecting the dye and I would feel some pain, and so I was holding DH's hand very tightly, waiting for the pain, when she said, "ok, we're done!".

No pain during, but I did have some cramping for about an hour or two afterwards, but it was no more painful than the cramping I get with AF. Just make sure you take a motrin or two about an hour before the procedure.

Re: HSG - how bad, really?

Congrats! I had to ask also, I think they are not "allowed" to tell you anything (like they are giving you a diagnosis in a way). Great news though!
