Went to BRU tonight....

and I nearly had a panic attack in the store. DH wanted to go in because we're going to register probably next month sometime and he wanted to see some "stuff" (basically, any electronic gadget for the kidi, he wants to know the in's and out's of it). So we go and I swear I was so overwhelmed! How do people know what is a good product and what is a piece of crap? I mean, here you are putting your child into a seat that they "Say" will protect, but they ALL say they will protect. I just feel like when we register, I'm going to need to bring an experienced mom with me! What do you REALLY need, and what is going to just stay in the box unused? AHHHHH, it's giving me hives just thinking about it..

It is very overwhelming but many people use that baby bargains book and swear buy it. It also helps to have a friend who has recently had a child give you some pointers! Good Luck and have fun!

Use the baby bargians book. DH and I had the same reaction the first time we went, totally freaked about how much stuff there was and how many decisions we had to make. We sat at home and researched individual items in the book and the parent reviews on BRU website. We ocasionally visited the store to look at colors or try something out but then we did most of our registering online. Then it started to be fun. Good luck!

I went and registered and then changed so much online. Then after getting the gifts I exchanged a lot. Truthfully you have no idea which things will work for you and which wont. Just relax and it will all come together. HAVE FUN!

We used the Baby Bargains book and also reviewed Consumer Reports. The reviews offered online at BRU were also helpful. But the single best resource were other new moms. They told me what they thought was helpful and what was a waste of money. It all comes together Chat Icon

Re: Went to BRU tonight....

It is going to be overwhelming and DH thinks that registering will be a breeze. Meanwhile, I'm the one that has been researching and reading about products since day 1!

I think bringing an experienced mom with you is an excellent idea. I've gotten some tips from 2 of my friends who have recently had babies and I'll bring along Baby Bargains as a guide.

I think a few ladies on here also mentioned about not registering for everything in one shot and maybe going twice so it doesn't feel as overwhelming.

I agree with the Baby Bargains advice! Buy that book and start reading up on things, it is very helpful!! I have also gone on the Consumer Reports page (we have an acct) and read up on strollers and car seats.

Re: Went to BRU tonight....

When I registered I brought my sister who just had my nephew 9 months ago. It was great, she showed me everything she tried and told me why it was good or bad.

Re: Went to BRU tonight....

I used:

1. Safety reports
2. Reviews from mom's on the BRU website.
3. My BFF has 2 LO's under 3, and her sister just had a baby 6 months ago - so their input.

Just take your time, and breathe, and know that nothing that you put on your registry is "set in stone"... U can constantly make modifications to it (I know I did about 300 times Chat Icon Chat Icon ), and even if you get the item, and decide that you don't like it.... U can always exchange it for something else!!!!!!!

Re: Went to BRU tonight....

I went twice. It was better the second time. Pick out like 2 -3 of the big items and then when you go home look up your registry. when you click on the items you can read reviews about them. I changed a swing and a bouncer due to the reviews. Unfortunately I did not scan more than one when I was there so now I have to go back.

I don't understand.... why not just work on your registry from home? That way you can read the reviews as you are putting the items on your registry, and you can go to the store once you feel like you are good with the items that you have chosen and you can go see them in person.... That was the way that I did it, and it just felt soooooooo much easier to me.

I origionally set mine up on the website so when I got there it was just the big things I wanted to see. Stoller and car seat. It was so much easier when I got there to check in and then I had a printed list of my items that they gave me.

Re: Went to BRU tonight....

Yeah, I understand.... I just felt that it was so much easier to go through the safety ratings, and then look through the items that they had in the stores so that way I could read review after review by the moms, and lessen my time spent at the actual store getting overwhelmed.
