Breaking a routine
DH and I have been working SO hard with Lilly to develop a routine. She has been doing so well. We are supposed to go to Niagra Falls for 4 days at the end of the month. She will be staying with my parents.
We are worried that she will be so thrown off and have acidents in my parents house.
How well do dogs adapt to change and will it take a while to get her back into a routine when we come back home?

Re: Breaking a routine
We went a away about a month - two months after we got Casey.
The only routine was that was broken was at my parents house. Since they weren't used to taking care of her 24/7 they didn't know her signals, so she had some accidents at their house.
When she came home, she was fine
I am not sure if Lilly is used to your parents house, but if I were you I would take her there and maybe let her hang out there with your parents will you go out or something.

The accident thing scares me. My mom has said REPEATEDLY that Lilly has to be house-trained before they watch her. Talk abuot pressure, huh? Ideally, I would love to take her there to get used to the house, but time just won't allow me to do that. My mom scares me more than anythng!
Boarding her is not an option - we just don't want to do that to her. I know that there's nothing wrng with boarding her for a few days, but Iwould rather not go that route.

Can your parents stay at your house? So at least if there are accidents it's on your floors and not theirs?

Not an option - my parents are creatures of habit (good suggestion, though!)

Re: Breaking a routine
A) Tell them your routine and ask them to stick to it B) have them confine her to one room with no carpets (ktchen) until they are sure she can be trusted
