Yup. We have out lynksys router on our PC in the library and I can use the laptop in the computer niche in the kitchen or upstairs.

As long as the laptop has a wireless card. Pretty much all do for the last several years, but not every one does.
Make sure you set up security for the wireless router when you get it. You don't want the neighbors tapping into your network.
