New Computer not recognizing external harddrive?
Does anyone know why my new computer might not recognize my external harddrive (which has all my music and photos and documents on it?) I have a Buffalo harddrive and Windows Vista Home Premium running - my computer-literate brother is not sure about it. Anyone know what I should do?

maybe you need to download some drivers from your external hard drive's manufacturer website so that it will recognize the drive?
i would check the external drive's requirements and specifications to see if its windows vista compatible.

OK..I just tried reinstalling the drivers and it gave me a message that it is only compatible with Windows XP  I wonder if there is an update I can download to make it work with Windows Vista.........

Just to ease your mind about your data, I would plug it into a different Windows XP machine. That way, you should be able to see that all of your files are there, you just may not be able to get to them from Vista.

Vista is one of the best built OS by Mircosoft...The development of products to get with it has been lacking
As far as the harddrive, i find it hard that Vista can't see the drive...
Prehaps when you said don't run someplace you should of said run.
I would go to the website and readup on it and see the manual.
