Neuchal Fold?
So, I have scheduled my 12 week sono to measure the neuchal fold (that's probably spelled wrong) and complete ultra screen test. And I was talking to a friend (lives in FL) who is 2 weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy. She said she didn't go for this sono and her dr. never mentioned it.
Anyone here have it? Would appreciated if you can tell me what I should expect?
TIA!

i had, the just measure the i think its the back of the neck or head of the baby. In order to have they need to a side profile of the baby. Depends if baby coroperates. Its a quick picture while sonoing.

Re: Neuchal Fold?
It's my understanding that this is commonly done, at least in our area. I have mine on Friday morning. You can do a search and find lots of info. from other ladies who have gone. I did that and found it helpful.

Re: Neuchal Fold?
The nuchal fold is a part of the ultrascreen test. The ultrascreen consists of giving some blood and a measurement of the babys neck(nuchal fold). Both of those things taken together give you the ultrascreen results.

Re: Neuchal Fold?
Found this:
What Is Ultra-Screen®? Ultra-Screen® is a First-trimester prenatal screening protocol designed to provide patient specific risk for Down Syndrome, trisomy 18 and other chromosomal abnormalities. Ultra-Screen® combines ultrasound measurement of the fluid accumulation behind the neck of the fetus (nuchal translucency) with maternal serum markers and is the earliest and most effective Down Syndrome screen available.
I go tomorrow for mine!

Re: Neuchal Fold?
The Nuchal fold test is just when they measure the baby's neck during the sonogram. It is routinely done between weeks 11 and 14.
It coupled with the blood screen test where you will get finger prick in order to collect 5 drops of blood.
The two test together make up the Ultrascreen.
ETA: my first OB didn't mention it either he had me going straight to the amnio. I wound up missing the deadline for the nuchal fold test which ****** me off I switched doctors after that.

yes, this is something you dont HAVT to have done. My OB asked if I wanted it, but many people have opted out of doing it.
