I'm REALLY lucky
That I have such a good job and such an amazing manager.
I was working from home today on a case whose deadline is fast approaching (next Friday). Basically what I do is input my legal opinion into the case, then it goes to my manager for his review, which takes a day or two, and then up the chain of command which takes a day or two, so I knew this had to be done by the end of today.
Yes, well, at 12:30pm the remote access system totally crashes. At 3:45pm I was able to get back in but ALL OF MY WORK that I had done from 7am to 12:30pm was GONE - I've been told it was lost in cyberspace and there's no retreiving it.
So I emailed my manager, explained the situation and told him I'll work on it this weekend and have it done for him by Sunday night.
He just called me back, all frantic - stupidly I assumed it was because he was concerned about the deadline, but NO, he wanted to make sure he got me on the phone before he left on the weekend to tell me to NOT WORRY ABOUT IT, that I am NOT to work this weekend and have been instructed to have a nice relaxing weekend, and we'll deal with it on Monday.
Now this certainly would have been a different outcome if I were still working for the firm!

Once again your preaching to the choir Seriously, though, I'm glad your job is going so well and I hope you take his advice and enjoy your weekend.

My dad always said that working for the government was like the promised land. Glad you're getting a work-free weekend.
