spinoff - how long do real poinsettias last?
I want to get a bunch of poinsettias (not the red, but the ligher ones) for our living room for Christmas. Any idea how long I can expect them to last?
My ILs are coming the Saturday after Christmas for the holidays, so I need to make sure all my decorations at least last that long!

I had a poiinsetta on my desk until July. I went home one weekend and when i came in on Monday it was gone  So your plant should last well past January.

Yes, we have some in the office from last year - they aren't red anymore though, they turn all green oddly enough. So you should be fine through New Years at least.

I had one for years. But in order to get it to rebloom and change color, there's a lot you have to do.
Oh and they can get huge if they're happy. I used to prune mine severely.

with proper care they can last a long time..my mom planted one in her backyard after the holidays and it got hugeeeeeeeee and bloomed every year...until the hurricanes one year ruined it (they live in FL)

Hmmm... so why on earth did I have it in my head that they don't last too long? I think my mom just doesn't want them around that long, so that's what she used to say so she could throw them out.

I had mine for 3 years. But to make it red, you had to give it a certain amount of darkness every day. It was a PITA. So mine only stayed green. Then one day, it got these little white bugs that looked like dandruff so I threw it away.

My mom has one from last year and all she does is water it regularly and give it miracle grow food every now and then.
