I agree that all jobs be it blue collar or not are valuable to society and every job contributes to our working, functioning system.
The OPs links however are more specifically about unions - which is a whole other story.
I am sure some unions are great - but as someone who lived in MI for several years and whose husband was management at an automotive plant - I can say that sometimes unions hinder the process.
My DH had people who would smoke crack at the plant and he could not get them fired because of the union. They would get fired for a day! and then come back! The stories were crazy. I, as a professional, would never be allowed to do the things they did!!
