Anyone having trouble exercising?

I tried my Perfect Pregnancy Workout video last night. I was doing the squats and I think it was too much... I started getting faint and dizzy so I laid on the couch with my feet up. It passed, but I didn't feel right after so I spent more time on the couch than I actually did working out. I was able to get through the stretches. I'm thinking yoga may be better suited for my particular situation. Any good pregnancy yoga video recommendations? Don't feel like paying for a class right now... it helps if I can do it at home when I want to.

Guess it's back to 3.0MPH walks on the treadmill. Even that I have to break up in 2 15 minute intervals. I've been so tired and the dizziness stinks. I thought at this stage you are supposed to feel great and energetic?????Chat Icon I would say I'm far from either. I feel worse than the first trimester and I have zero energy! I could stay in bed all day given the chance and some days it hurts to be awake by the afternoon if that makes any sense.

I didn't really get that boost of energy that people talk about either. I have actually been pretty tired the whole time, but the days that it's really bad, I have a small cup of coffee to help me through.

There is a light at the end of the rainbow... Just think of all the walks that we will be able to take once our LO's are here!!!!!! I know that's what I think of!

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

I had some trouble working out at the beginning of the first trimester. I was very tired and had cramps so I really didn't feel like getting off the couch.

Things started getting better around week 10, and I started to slowly return to the gym. I do a weight training routine (with modified weights) followed by 20-30 minutes on the elliptical trainer. So far it has been o.k.

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

Not PG here, but had a kind of funny story to share. My SIL is a real gym rat, so when she got PG, she immediately asked her doctor what she could and couldn't do workout-wise. The doctor advised her to do as much as she could/felt like. SIL was so surprised the doc didn't tell her to take it easy - that is, until she got to the gym! She said she couldn't do anything!!! Chat Icon She said the doc was pretty sly because she knew that her body would only allow her to do so much!

Point is, if you're body is telling you to take it easy - then listen to it! And don't feel guilty! You're making a person in there!!! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

I don't feel dizzy, just very tired so it is hard to get started. My exercise is limited to prenantal yoga once a week and walking on the treadmill 2x a week.

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

I am only 8 weeks but I haven't done a damn thing since finding out I was pregnant. I can hardly get off the couch to take a shower!

I am hoping that I will get more energy in a few weeks and then I plan on starting to swim again.

Between the cramping and the spotting, I know the best thing for me to do is to be a lazy bum. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

I exercised until I got pg like 6 times a week- aerobics, kickboxing, strength training, spinning.... The minute I was pg, I was huffing and puffing my way through 15 minutes of a class and would need to frequently take breaks... This was through my whole first trimester. Once I hit my second (almost 20 weeks now), I have a lot more energy and can make it through these classes. Not 6 days a week though...Chat Icon

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

I too have trouble doing anything much more than walking and light weights. My hips have been the biggest problem, they are sore a lot, and squats seem to agrivate them. but I do what I can.

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

Ugh, I have tried a couple of times to really get started, but I have NO energy. I never got that 2nd trimester energy that everyone talks about.

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

I had a little trouble in the first trimester because i started spotting a little and I was just so tired. By week 13 I had my energy back and I have been working out about 4-6 times per week, an hour at a time, since then. I am now 33w3d. I think you just need to listen to what your body is telling you. don't over do it. I take body conditioning classes and I can do the whole class but i make some modifications and if i get too tired i take a little water break....

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

Yes, though I'm 39 weeks now, so I think it's a marvel that I can still walk for 20 minutes at a clip, get the house ready for Thanksgiving and serve up food (even if I didn't cook most of it), and make it up the subway stairs, even if I'm puffing the whole way.

I was very active before I was pregnant, but the 1st trimester knocked me on my but. The 2nd was better, and I did have more energy, though still not like normal.

If you are tired, my advice is to get some rest. You can still do some exercise, but it might need to be on a lower level than what you are used to doing. Walking, swimming, and prenatal yoga are all great for pregnant women. Esp. swimming, very nice to feel weightless!

Re: Anyone having trouble exercising?

Every morning I wake up with great intentions to walk or go on the elliptical trainer and every night I sit and wonder where did the day go. I havent been working out but I really want to. Maybe today will be the day to start.
