Re: Has anyone heard from Blu-ize?
I believe she is in the process of moving him in with their parents so I am guessing they are just really busy with that

Re: Has anyone heard from Blu-ize?
I heard from her last night. She said she had a very good day with Fred. Sounded like she finally got him up and around and showered.

Re: Has anyone heard from Blu-ize?
awwww. so nice to think of me. I wasn't going to post because I feel that it's too much already with me.
I took the day off (thanks boss) to help get Fred to the neurologist. I got there around 10am and brought bagels and appetizing which he loves. He got right out of the bed and had breakfast with us. We had a nice convo with the whole family.
An hour later I showed him gifts I bought him. I nice cushy robe to wear after the shower, some slippers a new rolling stone calendar which has the covers of rolling stone magazine and a shower radio. (nice)
I gave him his slippers and the calendar first. Then after breakfast I showed him the robe and the radio. He loved them. I asked him to shower and told him he stinks big time. I told him he could ride in the truck with me and that seemed to work. I helped him in the shower and he showered. Didn't wash his hair, but hey, I'll take it. Laid out his clothes (actually told dad to do this) and checked on him a few times to help him although he's good for 90% of it.
Off we went to the doc. Long trip since it's in Mineola and they are in Holtsville. Mom and dad followed in their car.
Doc was great, I found parking right in front which made it easy to get Fred out of the car and into the chair. Wouldn't wear his leg. The doc ordered some blood tests and we went downstairs to Quest to get them done. He is reducing one of his meds to help with the lethargy. Here I was thinking he would add something. Let's see how that works. He will get the records from St. Francis and then order cat scan and MRIs to see structural damage and changes.
On the way to my house we talked, we looked at cars, we talked about getting a new car for him and me, we stopped at Starbucks. Got home and I forgot his walker so I had to help him hop up three steps to my door. He is super strong! We ate dinner together and spent about 4 hrs. Mom and dad took Fred home around 9:30pm. I told him that tomorrow night maybe we should go to the movies with his sons. He liked that.
The social worker is finally coming on Monday and the PT and Speech on Tuesday I think. Things are moving.
Oh and lastly, he realized that through the whole day, it would have been so much easier if he had his leg on with his walker. I didn't think I'd get him that far, but wow! Dad says he loves me so much and that he would do anything for me. I told him it's a matter of time until he gets used to them. It took me months to figure out how to deal with him to get results. Hopefully he will continue to get better and his mood will be better.
Thanks again for thinking of me.

Re: Has anyone heard from Blu-ize?
What a great update! Glad to hear it went so well!
I know this isn't the most important issue, but your mom and dad should look into a handicap permit for their car. We have one for Gary. The type you hang on the mirror and can be taken to whatever car Gary is riding in. All he needs is the form filled out from his neurologist. The handicap spots are a blessing.

Re: Has anyone heard from Blu-ize?
They have one already. Mom is disabled.
I didn't...but they did have an extra hanging one but I didn't take it. Live and learn. Fred didn't mind, he felt it was a challenge he could conquer and gave him some confidence.
I don't think St. Johnland let him wash himself in the shower. I think they probably did too much for him and that's why he's a bit lazy. It will take time.

SOunds like a great update and that he is coming really far. You have done so much, and I know that's what's helping him pull through. Sounds like you go to the same building in Mineola my pediatrician is in because Quest is downstairs in the same building!

Re: Has anyone heard from Blu-ize?
it's 156 1st Ave. I don't know if we will continue to take him to Mineola but we'll see.
The social worker came today and she helped us out a bit. We have some work to do but at least mom and dad have support and that's what's important in order to help Fred.
I'm going out there tonight to rattle his cage! I usually lie next to him in bed, look him square in the face and say, "you stink take a shower!"
I think for the first time we think mom and dad can go out for an hr without worrying that he will be alone. He is fine alone for an hr. I left him in my car running to go into Starbucks..he could have driven away, but i wanted to show him I trusted him. I think them treating him like an adult will help too.

What a great update - I'm hoping for more good days like that - it seems that he really just needs some people to distract him, get him out the house and do stuff with him. He is just so lucky to have you
