Re: "sick" cookies/italian cookies
they're cakelike...they aren't referred to as sick cookies, they have an italian name that I couldn't quite pronounce, and when I asked what it stood for I was told that it doesn't really translate, but it means, "sick" cookie...my exboyfriends family always had them at the house after wakes and funerals...I absolutely LOVED them, and they just popped into my head....and I have no idea how/where to buy them.....

Re: "sick" cookies/italian cookies
Savardi cookies? Try Capri bakery in Seaford. I worked there for years and they had every type of Italian cookie / biscuit imaginable. Also try Dimondas in Massapequa on Park Blvd. They have lots of Italian stuff as well.

Re: "sick" cookies/italian cookies
These are sooo easy to mkake! Can substitute Almond, Vanilla or Organe Extract!
LEMON DROP COOKIES (ANGINETTI) Makes 50 cookies
3 eggs 1/2 cup milk 2 teaspoons lemon extract 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup vegetable oil 3 cups flour 8 teaspoons baking powder Confectioners' Frosting (recipe follows)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In an electric mixer on medium speed, beat eggs, milk, lemon extract, sugar, and oil until well blended.
On low speed, add flour and baking powder. Mix until just blended. The dough should be soft and sticky.
Lightly dust the dough and your fingers with a little additional flour. Drop the dough from a teaspoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, spacing the cookies 2 inches apart. (dough will be like glue - very sticky)
Bake immediately for 8 to 10 minutes, or until slightly browned. Remove cookie sheet from oven. Using a metal spatula, remove cookies from sheet onto wire racks. Cool on wire racks.
Frost with Lemon Confectioners’ Frosting (see the following recipe).
If it is necessary to freeze cookies, use heavy-duty plastic freezer bags and freeze the cookies unfrosted.
CONFECTIONER'S FROSTING Yields enough for 50 cookies
This is a basic glaze that can be used for several different cookies. It is a very versatile icing. You can substitute anise or another extract to create different flavors.
6 cups confectioners' sugar 2 teaspoons lemon extract 1/2 cup water
In an electric mixer on medium speed, beat all ingredients until smooth.
Using a metal spatula. frost the tops of the cookies, The frosting will drip down the sides and coat the cookies.
Dry the frosted cookies on wire cooling racks. Store in an airtight container.
VARIATIONS:
VANILLA CONFECTIONERS’ FROSTING: Substitute 2 teaspoons vanilla extract for the lemon extract
ORANGE CONFECTIONERS’ FROSTING: Substitute 2 teaspoons orange extract for the lemon extract and 1/2 cup orange juice for the water.

Re: "sick" cookies/italian cookies
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh anginetti ,, lol i ahve a great recipe for them , there is a diff though , there is sometimes called the lemom drop cookies or the anginetti.. my husband loves these, this is the recipe i go by ,, i thibk that the lemon drops icing has no butter & you dont make it on the stove ,,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
6 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1 Teaspoon Grated Lemon Zest, Finely Chopped
3 Large Eggs
2 Cups All-purpose Flour
2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
Icing:
1 Tablespoon Unsalted Butter
3 Cups Sifted Confectioner's, Or Icing Sugar
2 Tablespoons Water
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
Colored Sprinkles (Optional)
Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with silicon sheets, or parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar, vanilla, lemon peel and 6 tablespoons of butter with an electric mixer until well blended. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Continue to beat for 1 minute. Stir in flour and baking powder and blend just until mixed. The dough should be soft and sticky. Spoon dough into a pastry bag fitted with a 3/8-inch round tip. Pipe 2-inch diameter rings onto the prepared baking sheets. With wet fingertips, press the ends of each ring together to form a smooth ring. Bake about 20 minutes or until light golden brown.
To make the icing, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over low heat. Add the sugar, water, and lemon juice and whisk until the sugar melts and the mixture is heated through. If icing is too thick to brush easily, add more water to thin. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately brush warm icing over the hot cookies. Sprinkle with colored sprinkle if using. Cool iced cookies for a few minutes, and then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely. Store in an airtight container Image Attachment(s):
