Re: when do you bring your cats to the vet?

really - we just brought them to the vet when we first got them for the usual shots. We always keep our cats inside, so we only took them to the vet as needed. We didn't do yearly check ups...

is that necessary for indoor cats?

Absoutely neccessary for indoor cats to get a full yearly checkup(including bloodwork , rabies shot and 4 in 1).

Re: when do you bring your cats to the vet?

when I got Daisy I took her to the vet for a check up/vaccinations/treat her ear mites. Now she had a booster and gets spayed/declawed on 11/26/07. After all of that it will be yearly appointments. It's a little more work when they're kittens

It's funny you say that, Espresso is an indoor cat and our vet said it was "up to us" if we wanted to do yearly checkups or not - that if he is an indoor cat it's almost impossible for him to pick anything up.
We haven't taken him since he was a kitten and got his last set of shots. He's four now.

My cat's vet told me to take them every year for a checkup. They go when the weather gets warm.

Indoor cats can catch disease and can get heartworm(very dangerous in cats). They can get hw from mosquitos. Good prevention for this is having them on Revoultion, Advantix etc.

Re: when do you bring your cats to the vet?

My vet has us bring her (well, actually he comes to us now) but twice a year. I think he splits up her shots sometimes? And I don't think he does bloodwork generally, but does take a fecal sample. I really kind of feel like it's a bit much sometimes. Maybe we'll cut it to once a year sometime soon.

She's completely an indoor cat.

same for our cat!

sometimes I think the vets push the yearly checkups just for the $$$. We had always had cats and they were outdoor ones and never took them for "yearly" visits and they were fine...all lived to ripe old ages!! Chat Icon

Honestly and I was never told otherwise when I first got her - she has not been to the vet since she was a kitten. She's 9!

She is an indoor cat.

But I never even get anything from my vet saying she has to come in for shots

Chloe only went to the vet when she was a kitten and now she is 6 years old. But now that she has two step siblings a lab and a st bernard who are outside a lot she goes every year for shots and check up!

I agree....I have an indoor cat, and he does get out sometimes, and I dont want to run the risk of him coming in contact with another cat that may have a disease.

We had a cat...years ago before they had the leukemia vaccine, actually get leaukemia and he NEVER went outside, so I wounldnt just brush off check-ups just because it is an indoor cat...that is JMO.
