Freddy update

Although things are a tiny bit better we found out today that insurance will not pay for a home health care aide as we were told he was.

We were told since he is home bound he will get that.

So far, only the speech therapist has visited and the visiting nurse 2x.

Still waiting for the social worker, the physical therapist and the occupational therapist to make thier way to him. The caseworker at UHC said it takes time meanwhile, Fred needs help..

I just don't know what to do. I called the caseworker at Empire who I loved to get some advice. When she calls me back I'm going to explain that they released him and he is not functioning..he needs an aide at least a few hrs a day.

Oh no, that's awful! It would stink to have to pay for that out of pocket! I hope his caseworker can offer you some guidance, especially if you were told it WOULD be provided and now it isn't happening.

Re: Freddy update

Now it's in the hands of UHC not empire..he's outpatient now and we were lead to believe if he was homebound he would get care...this is crap.

My dad seems so deflated. Fred hasn't had a shower in days. he won't shower. He says he doesn't want to. He's had aides showering him for months, he's afraid of doing it by himself.

Re: Freddy update

I called the agency this morning in my usual kick azz way and got some action. Fred sees the PT and ST today. His neurology appt has been moved up to this Friday and there is even going to be some counseling in home for all of them.

As much as I thought I was done doing this stuff, I guess I have to keep doing it. I seem to get results and I will continue to help.

Poor Freddy..but he can't just lie around all day. He needs to get going.

He may need to go out patient so he can interact with others. It may make a difference.

Thanks for listening.

Re: Freddy update

That's good news and a step in the right direction!

I'm glad that he'll also be getting some counseling, too. I hope he starts to perk up a little bit. I think you might be right about the out patient stuff - it might help if he has to get out and be in a place where others are going through similar struggles.

I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's great SusanChat Icon Chat Icon

Out patient is definitely better than in home therapy.
They way it was explained to me is, for us it would be like working out at home or going to a gym. You seem to push yourself harder at a gym than in the comfort of your home.
And although DH didn't like going out at 1st, because of his disability, he's glad he did. It made a huge difference for him. I hope it does wonders for Fred as well!
If you continue to get these results for Fred, than maybe you will always need to be his voice. Hang there, you're doing wonders for your brotherChat Icon
