Completely Unprofessional Receptionist

I was just calling my friend's doctor's office for her (pretending I was her) because she can't really make calls during the workday.

Call 1: Waited on hold for 5 minutes, as soon as I heard "hello" I picked up speakerphone and receptionist had already hung up. Okay, it happens. Hang up and call back.

Call 2: Waited on hold 6 minutes, I get receptionist and as I am MID-SENTENCE she says "let me put you through to the nurse" which leads me to a voiceamail. If she had LET ME SPEAK, she would have heard that I only had a question about what types of procedures they perform in their office and the dr's availability. Hang up on nurse's voicemail (I didn't leave a message) because I don't NEED to speak to the nurse.

Call 3: Waited on hold 6 minutes, and immediately get HUNG UP ON!

I cannot BELIEVE ANY doctor's office would operate this way. I am tempted to write a letter.

Wow, very unprofessional. I would call back again and when your hear her scream out DON'T PUT ME ON HOLD AGAIN, I NEED TO SPEAK TO YOU NOW! Then I would tell her what happend the 3 other times you called....

WOW! That's bad!

I would be tempted to make it a sport to get her to speak to me but I would be the one that ended up frustrated. I wouldn't even consider them for treatment - this is just a sign of things to come.

This reminds me of a doctor I had that had the worst receptionist that also happened to be the doctor's sister. I called with an emergency and for hours got - The doctor is not here, I don't know when she will be here, call back. Then when I called and the dr was in the office the response was "She's with a patient, leave a message" Couldn't I have done that 4 hours prior??

That is very annoying. I am amazed sometimes at people.

DH and I were at a car dealership yesterday that we had bought one of our cars from already. So we are pretty much sold on the dealership, just had to find a car/deal we like.
We walk in and no one is there. So we are waiting, another couple walks in looking at cars too and the receptionist comes back from the bathroom. Starts talking to us, then a salesperson comes in and asks the receptionist if the other couple is being helped. She says "You know, I'm busy dealing with these people" to him and rolls her eyes at me!!

I tried to look at her as sternly as I could because I think that is outrageous. He was just asking if the couple wandering around was being helped. As he should have.

I totally know what you mean. I called a dentist's office yesterday to try to make an appt and the receptionist was SUCH a moron. I said, "I'm calling about Invisalign"...and she was totally perplexed....had NO idea what Invisalign is....I just said, "nevermind" and hung up....I think it's very rude and unprofessional to have someone representing your office that is not cordial (and in my case she should really pay some attention to what the h*ll is going on in the dental world so she doesn't come off as a complete azz).

I used to have the exacpt problem with the office staff at my old Dr.'s office. We I transfered my records and they asked why I was leaving I flat out told them...its because the office staff is very unprofessional...they actually have a sign at the front desk that says..."Today is not your day, and tomorrow doesn't look good either"

I had that problem with my doc'soffice, I was going to change practices but they fired the girl.

I had a similar problem with a dentist's office. I would call, the receptionist would answer and put me on hold right away. I would stay on hold for 5-10 minutes and then she would pick up at which point I would say I would like to make an appointment. Almost every time she would say, "is it possible for you to call back in an hour or so it is very busy here". After going through this 4-5 times I decided to call a different office!

I would write a letter to the dr. or ask to talk to the dr. (even if you have to talk to a voicemail) and tell them about their staff. I am sure they would love to hear how they could potentially turn off new clients. They may not take new patients but they might if they lose the one they have.

Word of mouth is a huge thing when doing a dr. referal amoung friends, family. Everybody always asks for dr. referal.
