I don't know what would kill me more. Taking this child and having to worry about those two losers (I'm sorry for calling them that) or not taking this child and having to worry what ever happened to her. I would be filled with guilt forever..
It's a very hard decision.. I pray that it all works out for you and that you make one that you can live with.  
Would you be able to adopt this child and move far away from where you are?

we would def adopt her, buti can't move away. Luckily though, my husband and i recently bought our house and my cousin has never been there. so that is one good thing.
It's so tough.

That's def a good thing then. I would get myself a really good lawyer to handle the adoption to ensure that your cousin and her bf don't come near you/dh or that little girl...

It does sound like a big mess.
I am not an attorney but even if the Father is a lousy one, I believe he would have to give you Consent to take custody. You may want to check with an attorney.

This is what I was thinking also.
Is the father on the birth certificate? If so wouldn't he need to give permission to adopt. I'm sorry you're being faced with this. You sound like a good person, with a big heart who wants to help a little girl. I hope it all works out for you.
I would definitely start out by talking to a lawyer.
