how do you know if you dont ovulate on your own
for two months now ive been doing the clomid with the hcg shot. my dr told me in august i didnt ovulate, but how do i know if that means i dont ovulate? i stll havent gotten af, but ive noticed that the 2 months ive been on the clomid/hcg my pms has been horrible, i feel nausous all the time dizzy weak....just not myself at all. so im kind of torn what to do....take no meds this month see if i O on my own, take clomid for a 3rd month, but maybe skip the trigger maybe the combo of them both is doing it to me......and then is the doctor going to suggest injectables if clomid doesnt work this month. i know my options of what im willing to do are coming to an end, and it makes the reality of what i thought i would be ok to face, not so easy.

Re: how do you know if you dont ovulate on your own
Well you need to have your progesterone tested at 7dpo to know if you ovulated or not. Do you temp? If you do you should be seeing a clear shift after O. Your doctor should really be checking to see that you ovulated before saying that you didn't

He should be monitoring you with ultrasound and bloodwork. Your progesterone level rises after you O so that is what they usually look for-your estrogen also goes down. Is he not doing BW?

They can tell from progesterone levels if you ovulated. When are they giving you the trigger? My RE office won't give the trigger until the follie is at 18.

I think I understand - are you saying that you are basing all this treatment on the fact that one month you didn't ovulate? And you want to know if you will ovulate without treatment now since you only definitely know of one month not ovulating? I think the only way you can know if that month was a fluke is to stop the meds and chart or use OPKs to see if you O on your own. It's up to you how long you want to try that. Good luck.

Re: how do you know if you dont ovulate on your own
A few questions...
Do you get AF on your own - before you started treatment?
When they did the bloodwork and it showed no ovulation - it means you didn't ovulate. Your estrogen levels decrease and progesterone levels increase with ovulation - that's why when you temp, your temps go up after ovulation.
Whether you ovulate without drugs is unknown. You would have to do a natural cycle (no drugs at all) with monitoring to know for sure.
If you don't get AF on your own, it's pretty much guaranteed you aren't ovulating.

jules I also wanted to add that I didn't like the way clomid made me feel and this month on follistim I feel like my normal self. so injectibles might be an option for you also.

before treatment, i was getting AF every 31 days. here and there since i had my son i had some episodes of spotting. the 2 cycles before i started the clomid, however, i was 37 days and 39 days. it was the 39 day one that the blood work showed i didnt ovulate. i only used provera that one time to bring on AF. so the debate in my head right now is whether i should try clomid one more time or try a natural cycle to get a break from the drugs and see if it was a fluke or im having ovualtion problems.

did you notice that the clomid made your pms before your period horrible? and your periods were horrible? i feel dizzy and sick on the clomid. injectables really make you feel better than clomid? and with injectables do you have to worry about growing alot of eggs?

Clomid made me feel like sh*t - I hated it and had a horrible reaction to it. I've done two cycles of injectibles and had no side effects from them. I feel totally fine. Yes overstimulating is a concern but your doctor will probably start you on a very low dose and will monitor you to try to prevent you from making too many eggs.

It didn't change my pms symptoms, but like carolyn said it made me feel like sh*t. It also made me extremely sensitive and moody. taking the folllistim didn't even feel like I was on anything, I feel happy again and like my old self.
I grew only 2 eggs with the injectibles, which was the same on clomid. I asked the doctor if I could try to get more for the next cycle.

well after reading about some of the girls experiences on here with the overstimulation it makes me nervous! but then i think maybe their dose is much higher because they need to retrieve the eggs....i get so worked up and that doesnt help the situation either!

Yes I think that overstimming usually happens when someone is doing an IVF cycle and they are trying to get a lot of eggs for retrieval and fertilization. For a regular injectible cycle you should be on a much lower dose. Also if you have PCOS overstimming is more likely to happen.

I was on an extremely low dose for that reason. when you first start the doctors will start you off low to see how your body reacts.
