Keep on top of your insurance!!

Ladies, I just want to share this with you because I found out I've been paying too much!

I went online and checked out all my claims in detail. A few days ago I got a bill for $199 from a lab when I first got all my bloodwork from the RE. When I looked online I couldn't understand why they were billing me so much.
I called the ins. company and turns out they shouldn't have billed me $190 and I only owe $9. Big difference!!

Next thing - while I was looking at the lab claims, I looked at the claims for my visits to the RE office as well. The first visit said copay of $40 - which is what I have been paying each time, and its adding up fast since I have been going once or twice a week for sonos and blood. Well all the visits after the first one, the ins. company was charging only $18. Turns out since they are not actual doctor visits, but only getting blood drawn and seeing the sono tech, I SHOULDN'T be getting charged the $40 each time! If I hadn't looked carefully at my claims, I would have kept paying the $40 - overpaying!

So moral of the story is - not only to be your advocate in terms of your treatment but in every aspect of this whole thing!!!

Chat Icon so what you're saying is that I shouldn't have to pay my 30 dollar co-pay for every visit to RE? What do I do? call the insurance company? I know exactly what you mean when you say the co-pays are adding up. On initial visit they charged me a co pay...then when I went for day three u/s and SA we had to pay 30 dollars each...we have seperate insurance...now I have to go for HGM tomorrow and i'm sure that's another 30 dollar co-pay and then saturday for u/s so glad I have insuranceChat Icon Chat Icon

The insurance company told me that unless I am actually seeing a doctor and having an exam by a doctor I do not pay the $40 copay. With my insurance, when I get lab work done - seeing a tech or having blood drawn by a nurse, it is not the same as an office visit. So defintely check!!
The copays add up so fast, but on the other hand when I looked at what each visit was costing with the sono and blood, its over $400 each visit, and I am going once or twice a weekChat Icon Chat Icon
