My boss just came into my office...
and told me all the things I *didn't* do on this case. It would be alot more productive if you would sit me down in the beginning and let me know what you want.
The worst part of it is, he is completely right. He is just so thorough and thinks about things in a way that I just don't see. I have worked in such different kinds of firms, we just don't analyze things with the depth that this guy does
ETA: And I was just about to leave for my daughter's music class. Now I feel bad leaving.
Its just I NEVER get praise, only criticism. It just makes me feel awful about myself. This just shows that this is so not the place for me.

But isn't that how people learn from each other???
I don't have any advice as I am not a lawyer, but take what he says and use it on your next case!

You're right. And I will. But I just feel so bad about it. ANd I have said from the beginning of my conflicts with this boss that he will teach me tremendously. But he teaches with criticism, and never with praise, so it gets hard to hear the criticism.
All my other bosses have gone through my first round of cases with me and show me the way they like things done. Here its just, here are a bunch of files. Sink or swim. I just hate feeling like I'm sinking.

I can totally understand how it must feel defeating to hear his criticism over and over again - all I can say is, try to not take it personally. From what I gather from what you've said, this is just his personality type - it's not necessarily directed to you - I'm sure he has this same kind of manner with everyone.
And, I'd say, next time you have a case to work on for him, I would schedule an hour with him to discuss it before hand. That way you can bounce ideas off him and get some feedback BEFORE he lets you swim and possibly sink on your own.
Remember, too, this is a tough situation, but will give you tremendous insight and growth. We've all been there

You are right. My plan is to go through the cases I have with him now and try to analyze them through his eyes. Then I will meet with him to brainstorm.

Uggh! He just told me that something I wrote is nonsense. I want to explain it to him, but he is talking to someone else. I just can't focus on anything else right now.
I just want to go and sing and dance with my DD.

What?! That's not cool. I don't understand why attorneys have this holier than thou attitude about themselves and actually believe it's acceptable to talk to people like that!
Go to music class with DD - keep yourself grounded and remember what's important

I can't go to the music class. It ends at 5:15 and its 25 minutes away. I'll just meet her at home and we'll sing and dance together.
