I have no heat!

As per the instructions of our service man, we emptied some of the water out of our oil burner (we were told to do this once a week to get the sediment out - our unit is about 70 years old Chat Icon )

We did this according to the directions and when we turned it back on, the auto-fill for the water just kept running and running the little glass thing that shows where the water level is at was totally full and it just kept running. We called the place where we have our service contract through at about 2:00 - they said that they would have to get back to us about having someone come over to check it out. I am still waiting for a call-back Chat Icon Chat Icon

To complicate matters, DH is away for the entire week and I hate dealing with this stuff on my own.

How much longer should I wait before I call the place back?

It's getting cold in here!

Re: I have no heat!

I don't really have advice on the heat situation. But you could turn on the oven and open it to get a little heat. I know that only helps the kitchen, but it's better than cold all over.

I hope they come soon! Chat Icon

Call them and demand an answer now. You don't want your pipes to freeze. They need to work up to their contract!

Re: I have no heat!

I would have called back after a half hour of waiting. That's rediculous that they said they'd get back to you to let you know about sending out a servce person.

Can you cancel your contract without a penalty? If so - I'd suggest you find another company. If they are this bad now, how will they be if there are problems in the dead of winter.

We use Petro and both times they've come out within a few hours or less, and always showed up at the beginning or earlier than the estimated arrival window. They've also done additional repairs that were not officially covered by the contract. One of the service guys told us that if they spotted something that could be fixed in under an hour they were supposed to fix it whether it was covered under the contract or not - at no extra charge.

I agree. I bought COD oil and had a separate contract and they always showed up within 2 hours.

Re: I have no heat!

They actually came about a half hour after I posted -

The guy turned off the automatic fill and told me that it needs a new automatic filler and that they'll come back tomorrow to fix it - he didn't have the part on-hand.

Heat is on, but I'm afraid to put it up past 64.

Thanks for the concern, all!

As long as the sight glass has water up to the mark your okay to run the heat. I'm guessing you have steam. Run it to a comfortable temperature 64, 68 or 70 it won't affect your system. Just check tomorrow to be sure there is water in the sight glass. Chat Icon
