Those who get migraines...
How do you know the difference between a migraine and a regular headache.
I have had a headache for 3 days and just realized its probably a migraine and took the meds. I have been feeling achy and nauseous but hate taking migraine meds and don't know when I really need it.
Thanks

Re: Those who get migraines...
It's the nausea and extreme sensitivty that does it for me.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: Those who get migraines...
I can't function when I get a migraine, as opposed to a regular headache. My migraines are painful throbbing on one side of my head, and I am sensitive to light and sometimes feel nauseous. I have to be in bed, in a cold dark room, I take 3 Advil and it could take a few hours for it to go away.

Same for me for what makes it different than a regular headache ... but I always take Imitrex or else I'd die!

I get naseaus and my head feels too heavy to even hold up. Sometimes my vision is affected too. Aleve has been working great for me lately... I take 2 or 3 and then hop into bed and sleep it off.

Re: Those who get migraines...
When I can't function and light bothers my eyes! I just go home, take my meds and go to bed until it goes away.
I usually get them from lack of sleep.

Re: Those who get migraines...
A migraine is much more intense and has many additional symptoms. I feel like someone is pushing a needle through my left eye and into my brain. Also, extreme sensitivity to smell and light. Very nauseous and simply can't function. It is nothing like a regular headache.

when I get a migraine I get nauseaous, and have sensitivity to light. I also have blurred vision in one eye. That is usually the onset and I know it is coming

Re: Those who get migraines...
The first sign for me is my vision gets all wacky (aura), sometimes my hands/mouth get tingly too. Then the headache starts, it's usually on one side & VERY painful. It's accompanied by nausea. I'm extremely sensitive to light. I am out of commission for the day, cannot function. The best way to describe it is a brain freeze/"ice cream headache"...well, times that by 1000. I take meds to prevent them but they're no longer working. I also take meds at the onset of the migraine to ease the pain, as well as something to help the nausea. Migraines SUck!

Re: Those who get migraines...
I had a migraine once and I wanted to die. I can't even explain the pain I was in. Plus I was so nauseous and every little sound or sliver of light made it worse. I hope that it never happens again.

Re: Those who get migraines...
I have them as well. Last one was a disaster, I thought I was about to have a stroke. I had this horrible palpation on one side of my head. I literally felt that one side of my head is about to explode and I also felt a very loud ( or so I thought) sound as if one of the arteries in my head is about to burst. It was scary. I took Advil, but my doc advised that Imitrex works better. I will try it next time

Re: Those who get migraines...
I can usually tell I'm getting a migraine when my eyes get wierd- puffy, pressure and strain. If I take imitrex soon enough, 95% of the time I can get rid of it. If it's already to far gone, I get naseous, light sensitivity and alot of pain! I've only had an aura twice in all the years. Migraines do SUCK!
