To say something or not...

I live very close to a 3 way intersection with a 3 way stop sign for every side. I live on the street that feeds into the main street. I see cars blow through the stop sign constantly; sometimes while I am there before hand and in the middle of making the turn. At times, I do have an opportunity to stay something to the driver and have because young children live at the intersection on the 4th side. I'm never obnoxious but do make my point by reminding them that a stop sign is not optional and that they are going to hurt someone by being so careless.

Would you say something given the chance or am I the only crazy?

You are not crazy. I live on a busy street. I have 3 kids. They zoom down my street. I yell at them to slow down. I've also called the cops.

Re: To say something or not...

My IL's live on a corner of a dead-end so many drivers feel that the stop sign is optional since there is usually no traffic coming from the dead end part. I make sure to lay on the horn or be obvious to tell them to STOP!

This is a MAJOR pet peeve of mine. Not just by my house but everywhere I drive. NOBOBY stops anymore at stop signs. I just don't get it.

I even feel that when "I" stop, people behind me are mad at me. Like I am driving like a "grandma".

There is a stop sign near my house that this old guy sits outside and gives the "thumbs up" to you if you stop Chat Icon

I think its important to stop at stop signs. There have been many times that I've seen someone on the corner near my house that yells at people to stop at the stop sign. He lives on a somewhat busy street and its also a 3-way stop. He's got small kids, I totally don't blame him.

I think you are completely in the right to want people to stop and I would absolutely be saying something if they didn't.

Re: To say something or not...

I ALWAYS say something. In fact, I'll scream it as they speed away on our street, and it usually scares them because they think I'm screaming because they hit something.

A few weeks ago a UPS man cut me off. When I ran into him at a building 5 minutes later, I said something to him about it. As long as you keep a neutral, unaccusing voice, I think it's ok.

There are also these really effective signs that say SLOW that look like kids jumping off the curb - maybe it's time to invest in some?

Re: To say something or not...

I used to live at a stop sign - Soooooo many people blew that stop sign.

After saying something - and no one really caring about what we say, I called the cops - and honestly - they were so good about it. They would actually come and stake out and pull alot of people over.

Actually the cops used to laugh at us, cause from our house we can see the cop on the street across from us - we used to get our coffee and sit on our front steps and watch Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can't get over how many people don't stop - I would definitely do something about it.

I get very upset about people not stopping - and I feel I need to do something about it - that is how my grandmother was killed, by someone that didn't stop at a stop sign Chat Icon

Re: To say something or not...

Unfortunately, I don't think saying anything will do any to helpChat Icon .....Maybe you could write a letter to town hall and see if the corner can be looked at. If the corner is accident prone, it might be a canidate for a 4th stop sign....creating an all way stop....
