So we all know how expensive Long Island is

but are there any areas particularly in Nassau that you can buy a house in a good school district for less than $400,000?

You can still find houses in the high 300's in Levittown and Hicksville.

Re: So we all know how expensive Long Island is

do you want to fix it up?
Are you and your DH handy?

Here is a link to a house under 400k
its midblock location and i know the section, and its really quiet over there.
The house needs some work, but it doesnt look hopeless, and the school dist is excellent

That's a great block!

My husband and I just bought in Massapequa Park for under $400k. House needs work, but the kitchen and bathroom are newer so that was a huge plus for us.

I think its definately possible, to find something under 400k in a great school district, I am in massapequa but plainedge schools wich are also very good.
If your handy or know people, you can do lots of improvements for a little amount of money, its labor that really adds up

I live near this one. The basements flood at least once a year b/c we are below sea level. I don't know what the builder was thinking putting in basements so close to the water.

Also we think taxes are going to go up a lot again when Trump on the Ocean opens b/c he got a sweetheart deal with the state where he pays no property or school tax, but our fire department has to serve the facility, which according to his website will have a restaurant, a 1400 person catering facility, a nightclub, and a lounge.

Definitely possible - but the house is going to need some work.

If you think of it as a starter home, and get in while it is a buyer's market, you'll be very happy you did later on down the line. That house stinky'smom posted is a great example (and you'd be in my town Chat Icon )
