I'm new to IF and have questions

I am 36 and DH is 40. We have been TTC for 9 months and decided that it was time to see about assitance. We had our initial consultation last night and I am so overwhelmed...if there's NOTHING wrong it's only a 20% chance on clomid? Is it normal for the RE to suggest clomid for 3 months and then move directly to IVF? My insurance only covers 10K lifetime which means clomid and 1 1/2 IVF. So basically if nothing after first IVF i'm TFS because i'm out of insurance money. Is IF a "pre-existing" condition? Could I change insurance companies and "start all over?" So sorry i have all these questions I just have absolutely no idea where to start thinking about this. RE took blood last night and DH has SA in a week. Any help from you all is greatly appreciated!!!

Because you have a limit, most RE's will move directly to IVF - it's much more successful as opposed to IUI's.

However, I would definitely go for a second or third opinion. First, you need to do more tests before moving forward - HSG, Hysteroscopy, CD3 testing, etc. Secondly, you may find a different Dr. that you like better.

I definitely agree with Gerty - how is the doctor giving you a course of action when he hasn't run any tests yet?

Chat Icon Chat Icon I agree--I would seek a second opinion. I also hate when Dr's say there is a X chance you will get pregnant this month-there is no way you can average yourself with other wopmen. What in your DH's sperm is better, what if your CM is better. You definitely need the tests Gerty mentioned and then talk about treatment. If you are considering IVF , once you get a diagnosis look up the clinics' statistrics on SART.org

I agree with the other posters. I'd ask for more testing including HSG and full day 3 bloodwork.

Does the 10K lifetime include IUIs? Is your doctor doing IUIs with the Clomid??
