Decorating Help

If you had your LR, Kitchen & DR open to each other, would you have all the same similar colors to decorate?

And one other question would be, if you also had similar colors in your MBR would you think that all these rooms having similar colors is too much? Chat Icon

I'm hooked on the brown & slate blue combo right now. Chat Icon

We have a great room that is leaving room and kitchen... We have similiar colors now but are looking to redecorate also... I am undecided as well , but I think I'm leaning towards breaking the rooms up a little with different colors.........

Mine is some what the same layout. Below is a pic of the LR/DR, you can see the dining room table and curio cabinet to the left, to the right will be a formal sitting area. That wall is the same color.
My Kitchen is connected, but there is the Island/Range that separates the 2 rooms.

IMO,I would try to break it up as much a possible and give each room a good flow, but a different look.

Are you just talking about paint colors Bari or do you mean, everything? We already painted the area one neutral color (BM - Carlisle Cream). All the wood cabinets and table and entertainment center are Cherry wood tones. And the granite is a silver/gray with the stainless appliances. Any thoughts on colors to make the rooms different, but flow nicely. I hope that made sense. Chat Icon

I understand (I think - LOL). Paint colors can be the same, but you can break it up with color accents, for instance- art work on the walls, you can make the kitchen a wine theme and then break up the Dining room area by adding a different feel. I know you said you love the brown and blue, so maybe get some nice blue glass pieces and display them in the dining area and then, you can bring that color into the LR with matching pillows. Now I hope that makes sense? Chat Icon

Re: Decorating Help

My downstairs is all an open floor plan. I wanted everything to be a very warm feeling that matched to some extent. My kithen is terra cotta, my den is mustard yellow, and my formal living room is wine red. I love it. I think keeping them in the same family is a good idea.
