Why does the media think we care more about
celebrities that have the ching to rebuilt their homes IF the fires consume them, over regular schmoes (like our nonschmie Phyl) stand to lose EVERYTHING, and will have to fight tooth and nail with ins co's and the like...maybe NEVER getting their homes back.
ugh!

i agree! i was listening to the radio yesterday and they were listing off celebs that are being rushed out of their homes like courtney cox, jennifer aniston, and goldie hawn! i was like "thats nice! but i'm pretty sure they can ALL rebuild or buy something new after all is said and done!"

I agree, it's ridiculous! Also, I just checked out the front page image on Yahoo, and it's the fact that the fires are threatening a theme park in CA. There are people who are losing their homes, and their lives are being threatened, WHO CARES about a couple of rollercoasters!

Malibu has 3000 acres involved.
Every OTHER fire has min of 18,00-40,000 acres involved right now!
People are pizzed around here!
Up North of LA there are THREE major fires that might get together to form a HUGE disaster!
San Diego County has evacuated at least 100,000 people. The only places for them to go to are small areas between OC and there. Some are comming here but my area is ON FIRE!

ITA with Phyl, if it is outside TMZ the news could care less. They want us to cry over someone losing a $50 mil dollar house instead of real people losing everything.

I had this thought this morning as I heard someone..Jane Seymour maybe? on 1010 WINS talking about how she evacuated. That would be terrible for her but she'd pick up and build or buy a new house and be done with it.
It's the nameless people who really stand to suffer.
Then again, maybe it's because all the regular people are too busy trying to save as much as they can and get to a safe place, as opposed to celebrities who can replace it all so they have time to sit and chat with the media? I know I'm reaching...

They don't have to be packed into a stadium or a high school to wait it out.

Because, sadly, some people will only pay attention when there is a famous person attached to the story.
I'll freely admit, I don't want the news or read "regular" news headlines.
But I always read entertainment news and sometimes it's a story that clues me in to other things happening out there.
It's not right, I know.
However, I do agree with a story this big and affecting so many people the bigger news outlets should stick to the overall story, not a celebrity home.
