HSG

I just received my prescription for an HSG. I was wondering if it is a test that you can do anytime during your cycle or is there a certain time frame in which it should be done. (for example after af but before o?). Just curious b/c - I KNOW I am grasping at straws here but ...I heard several stories of people geting pg after having it done. I don't want to miss an opportunity casue these past 8 months (although not long in the ttc world) keep getting increasing difficult emotionally-just want to find something positive in all of this Chat Icon TIA

Re: HSG

It's done after your period and before you ovulate (so usually between days 7-11 or something like that). They say your chances of conception are increased for 3 months after becuase it's "clears out the cobwebs". Good luck, mine wasn't bad at allChat Icon

Thank you so much!Chat Icon I hear it is relatively painless. I am not nervous yet b/c I havent scheduled it- but I am sure I will be when i schedule it next month! Just hoping for answers more than anything else. DH s.a. results came back good and he's within "normal range" so now I have to figure out what is going on with meChat Icon

I had one last month; no pain whatsoever. I did take advil that morning, but I was pleasantly surprised at how painless it was after hearing many say how it hurt. Good luck!

Re: HSG

Good Luck with your HSG, I just had one last month... Usually they say 7-8 days after the FIRST day of your AF.

Good Luck!

Thanks girls! Chat Icon One other dumb question...if they see a blockage of some sort..do they 'fix it" right then and there or do you have to do for another procedure to clear it? i apologize for my ignoranceChat Icon

Re: HSG

Firstly, take a couple of Advil an hour before the procedure - it will reduce any discomfort you might feel

Secondly, they generally won't do anything right then and there if you have one or two blocked tubes. The Dr. will talk to you about the results and give you your options.

Gerty is right although if the blockage is minor alot of times the dye pushes the blockage out of the tube. My GF suffered from IF for 3 years and had an HSG done...she had a blockage and got pregnant the next month. Good Luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: HSG

I had mine done last week. When I called to schedule, they asked me for the first day of my last period and they told me to come in on 10/10. When I had it done, I was in more pain when the doctor inserted the speculum. He said that I'm the first patient that he had that ever reacted that way. It didn't hurt, but it was discomforting to me. Definately take the Advil before you have it done and also did your doctor prescribe you antibotics to prevent a pelvic infection. I had to take 2 the day before, 2 the day of and 2 the day after.

I hope all goes well with you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: HSG

Everyone is different, when I had my done i felt no pain. I wouldn't of even had known that it was happening except for the picture on the monitor.

Re: HSG

While I don't remember exactly when in my cycle I had the HSG, I do recall that I had one quick, sharp pain then nothing. I took some Advil before the procedure and I was good to go. I think ppl who have a blocked tube may experience a bit more pain, but I'm not entirely sure of that...

Good luck to you!

My dr didn't rx any antibotics either. I did ask her and she said it wasn't necessary.
