Using a lap top...on your lap?
Im working from home today and a little displaced due to the house being painted. I am working on my bed with the lap top on my lap and the fan just came on...is this bad...will the computer over heat?

I always use it on my lap, it never overheats. Just be careful on your bed though that you are not blocking the vents.

Re: Using a lap top...on your lap?
my laptop is on my lap 10 hrs a day almost. Sometimes it gets hot, so I put it on a pillow on my lap, but it has never overheated in like 5 yrs. (knock on wood).

Just keep the vents clear and you'll be fine.

You'll be fine. You might want to consider a targus chill pad if you're going to have it on your lap a lot.

It's better to have it on a hard surface, instead of a pillow. The pillow blocks any bottom vents, and insulated the heat. If you have a board, or book or something, it will keep it cooler.

For some reason my laptop never gets hot when it's on my lap.
You should be fine as long as the fan isn't covered.

The fan on my Dell laptop always gets going and the bottom gets hot. My IBM laptop randomly gets hot but the fans never come on. I don't even know if it has a fan. You should be fine though

If it happens often try some compressed air on the fan. If that doesn't work get the fan cleaned by a professional.

Re: Using a lap top...on your lap?
Thanks for all the responses!!
I have it on my lap and I put it on a hard tray when I leave the room.
It doesn't really feel hot I just heard the fan kick on.
