Credit Solutions?
Hi,
DH and I are very in debt (credit cards)... tens of thousands of dollars. Most of it from him before we got married, and from a very bad car that we poured LOTS of money into. Anyway, we have been looking into a debt solution service, but I am nervous about it and have heard mixed things. Can anyone tell me anything about settling debt? Has anyone settled with the CC companies themselves or used a service to do this? I would REALLY appreciate any responses!
TIA!!!!

Re: Credit Solutions?
It pretty much KILLS your credit to do this!

Re: Credit Solutions?
Really? Our credit is OK now, but we are falling behind. We're nervous that our credit will just go down gradually as we start to miss payments & stuff. As it is, there is no end in sight!

Re: Credit Solutions?
how are your credit scores now? would you qualify for a zero interest cc to transfer your balances to? that would save you $ in interest charges and help to pay down the debt faster.

Re: Credit Solutions?
We have mostly 0% CCs but it is not helping. We are on a shoestring budget, no luxuries whatsoever, but it is just a lot of old debt. DH is PD, and when they settle their contract next year we will be getting a HUGE check. We are thinking about calling CC companies at that time & seeing if we can settle at that time.
I wanted to know if anyone has done this/ knows anyone who has done this.

Re: Credit Solutions?
the only thing i have been able to negotiate with cc on is getting an APR lowered. sometimes they can do it and sometimes they can't. but if you are already at 0% for them, that wouldn't help.

Re: Credit Solutions?
How about a HELOC, you can use it to pay down your cc debt, your interest rate will prob. be lower and you can deduct the interest. If you own a house, this may be a good option.
