Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
why DH set his alarm for 7:30 AM to leave the house a few minutes after 8 AM to go to our new home and pick up a cable box so he can exchange it at 9 AM when Cablevison opens, INSTEAD of going to U-Haul to get the truck so we can move into our new home
To all the ladies that have an opinion, thanks and feel free to answer, but I really want to hear a man's logic behind why this is more important to do today (when he took off work yesterday to "spend all day at the new house finishing up so we can move in" and didn't get there until after 1:00 PM) than getting the U-haul and starting the process first thing.
Oh, I forget to mention there is something he wants us to do tonight in East Meadow at 8:00PM, and our new home is at least an hour ride from there.

HIM MAN!
MUST HAVE CABLE!
I went through the same thing when we moved into our place. Cable had to be set up before ANYTHING else. It is about the sports.
Truthfully, you may actually want that stuff set up before you move anything else in because it is a b!tch to install and move things around boxes and furniture.

And at the end of your long day, instead of staring at the walls of your new lovely home, you can cuddle up on the couch and watch some tv.
to you for the frustrations.

Re: Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
trust me
any man will tell you that the most important part to any house is the TV, which only works with cable
Cable and TV is to men what shoes are to women
don't even try to understand
and you have to get to the store early or else you're waiting in line for a while and they may run out of your part
waiting a day is NOT an option

Re: Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
My DH was the same way when we moved in. I think he moved an air mattress and our TV for the first night we spent in our house. He was perfectly fine with that and couldn't understand why I wasn't.
We have over 1,000 channels.
I watch maybe 3 channels (MTV, ABC, and VH1).

Don the part I'm having the problem with is NOT that we didn't have cable. He had it installed two weeks after we closed (2 months ago). During all the painting etc he had a small TV in the house hooked up and running to watch baseball playoffs instead of listening to the radio. IT WAS ALL WORKING.
The major malfunction was the fact that the cable box didn't have a DVR on it b/c the installer told him Cablevision doesn't have HD boxes with DVR and yesterday he found out that wasn't true. So today, INSTEAD of going to U-Haul (it is now 10AM and we still don't have the truck to move) he got the non-DVR box and went to Cablevision to get a DVR box.
This is the part I want explained. Why was it more important to fix something that wasn't broken before we moved

FOOTBALL SEASON
He doesn't watch football. He's a baseball man - and the NY teams are out, so there is no sport that is currently a must watch for him.

Here's a hint to those guys trying to justify this... (and slightly TMI )
DH and I moved in to our new house on December 22. Cable got installed a few days later. Our son was born on September 10 (the following year). Without cable, you find other things to do

Re: Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
I asked DH... here is his answer:
"Moving in suck, it's a lot of work. So a TV is mandatory. It makes the time goes much faster. And with the TV/Cable you will have a chance to me ...aka DH... to me doing something in the house. I have move over 10 times in my life, I always set the TV first. In addition, there is still tomorrow to finish up."
So.... here it is!!!
ETA: I aked about the 1pm deal to DH. His response.... arms in the air. No comments!

thanks for clarifying
once you have DVR, you need it like a drug
simple cable will not do
same with having access to HD

Re: Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
Kevin can attest to this - the first thing Bob started to put together in the house was the cable, surround sound stereo, and all the components. He didn't care about unloading boxes from cars, or the furniture, just wanted to get his tv and stereo parts all set up.
It's a guy, thing, Darlene. I have no idea why....

Re: Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
Why bother having a house if there's no TV, DVR and cable? You may as well be living in a cave......
He needs the DVR so when he's working on the house, he can record the shows he wants to watch. Otherwise, he would have to stop to watch the show. Plus, once it's recorded, he can watch it without commercials. He saves time that way. See, it's all about maximizing his time. Very efficient, I think.....

Re: Would Someone (preferably a man) Please Explain
Now that the moving in part is mostly complete I want to thank everyone for chiming in.
For the record, the absolute last thing DH did on Saturday was hook up his brand new Sharp Aquos - which I knew would be the case - hence the reason I didn't understand the need to go to Cablevision before U-haul.
