Did I mention?
That neither one of my brothers called to wish Alex a happy birthday? Not even a gift  And the one brother who lives in Philadelphia - he said he would stop by for her birthday party on Sunday.
He never did.
Never called, emailed, nothing.
It's one thing to maintain this kind of strained, tension and hate-filled relationship with your sister, but wholly another to take it out on your neice.
I'm just so utterly disappointed and depressed for my daughter that she will never have a close knit family. It's times like these that I wish we would just move to Israel so we could be closer to my MIL, BIL and his children

I know how you feel. DH and his brother had a strained relationship for awhile and although things have gotten better they still are not incredibly close. I want DS to have a close relationship with family and cousins as I did growing up but neither DH or I really see that happening. We are hoping once they have their 1st baby in December things may change b/c than they will understand.

I'm in a similar situation with my sister but we don't maintain a relationship at all..
My kids adore her kids but know we don't see them anymore. My parents brought my niece over to see Maddie's soccer game this weekend & she was too shy to say hello.
While I appreciate the drama is gone from my life, it does sadden me that it's gone so far.

That is sad. I'm sorry for you and Alex.
But these are the way your brothers are. I apologize in advance if I step over a line here, but it seems to me that even if you had a good relationship with your brother, they are just kinda selfish people. Do you think they would really behave differently towards Alex if you all did get along better?

Probably not
Though, the one in VA would most definitely send a gift - the fact that he hasn't tells me that this relationship is kaput. There's no reason on earth why he should be harboring animosity against ME. It gives me all the more reason to NOT to go to his wedding in June. I don't think I can see him face to face without losing it on him.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. When DH and I were not speaking with his sister, we tried numerous times to drop off/hand off presents for Christmas and their b-days and even mailed checks (which were never cashed)
It really is sad when toddlers suffer from the cruel, selfishness of adults.
I am sure Alex had many loving, people with her on her special day, and those are the ones that count
