Anyone ever scrape popcorn ceilings?

Have any advice on keeping it as non messy as possible? Was it more work than you expected?

it depends on the room, etc. P.S. check with your town, some popcorn ceilings have asbestos (ours dont).

A room lets say 12x12 I would say would take about 1 week.

A weekChat Icon Wow, I did not expect it to take that long. Maybe we need to plan better.

My house was built in 1993 so I wouldn't think that it would have asbestos, right?

I think the best way to remove it is with water - soak it then scrape. Messy...but quicker than a dry scrape (from what I have seen/read).

Re: Anyone ever scrape popcorn ceilings?

I helped a friend do this about a month ago. Buy tarps and tarps and tarps. She started by cheaping out and putting old sheet down...well that didn't work. We'd walk on the sheets and just bend down about 75 times a day to stretch it out. I felt like I was on a beach all day trying to lay on the towel that kept rolling.

We actually had fun doing it. But it was messy and a whole lot easier than I thought.

Re: Anyone ever scrape popcorn ceilings?

We moved into our house 3 months ago, the first thing we did was pay someone to scrape our ceilings. It took them 3 days for the entire house.

It is MESSY! It is AWFUL! It is a PAIN in the ARSE!

But it is 1000% worth it.

The guys who did it for us literally had each room encapsulated in a bubble of plastic, it was on the floor and hung on from the ceiling to the wall.
