new countertops
Home Depot seems very overpriced to me for countertops... am I correct? We're likely going to go with granite or silestone (though I guess corian isn't totally out of the question)...
Are any places more reasonably priced? I know granite is expensive -- but HD seemed excessive... Maybe I'm out of the loop!

Re: new countertops
I'm not sure if this will help much, but the Expo carries the same stuff, but was quoted a lot lower than HD. This was a few years ago and I'm not sure if that is still the case, but worth a shot. Also try tile places, some of them will sell countertops.

Re: new countertops
I know if you do a search for granite a lot of girls used independent companies. I went to one and the basic granite was $45 a square foot.

Ikea also sells granite countertops, I am not sure of their pricing, but they are ususally very good.

This is what we did. We used a place in Holtsville.

Re: new countertops
There are plenty of places that sell it cheaper then HD. I don't know where you live, but Flushing (College Point Blvd.) has lots of places that sell tiles, kitchen cabinets and granite. There is also a place in Farmingdale on Conklin that has pretty good prices. Sorry i can't think of the name right now.

Same here. Home Depot silestone price was much higher than it was at Expo - which didn't make any sense to me.
We got ours at Expo.

I should have said that - we're in Nassau County, south shore.

We got ours from Granite Industries at $45 a square foot. I think it's in Holbrook.

Did you have to hire an independent person to install it, or did they have people who do installation?

Re: new countertops
I would go ANYWHERE except Home Depot / Expo. We are going through an independent contractor and we are paying half for our granite. We went to the quarry yesterday to look at slabs and pick out which 2 slabs we wanted. We are actually going with a Group E (Exotic) granite called Sienna Bordeaux. It is almost $100 p/sq ft through Home Depot.

That was my problem - The only ones I liked at Home Depot were group D or E -- so $90-100 per sf...
My parents have a good contractor, but I'm not sure what prices he can get... Guess we'll keep looking around.
We just want to find someone good!

Cool, we will check them out. They are in Holbrook, right? Is that their only location?
