Dexter is a show on Showtime. Basically, he was orphaned at 3 but he witnessed his mom get brutally murdered, which as he got older, brought out the serial killer instincts. He was adopted after the killings by a cop, who saw his tendencies and swayed Dexter to use them for good by killing only people who deserved it, like killers and rapists. All the while, he is a forensics cop specializng in blood spatter. Brilliant show!
