Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
I am having a designer...a friend of a friend...come this weekend to give ideas and hopefully begin the process. I will let you know. Some girls here gave me some great recommendations that I may try if Sunday doesn't work out!

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
We kind of did it ourselves. I had the kitchen designers at Home Depot design it and ordered the cabinets from them. We did the gutting. I had professional sheetrock, plumbing and electric. My DH and Dad put in the cabinets and I had a pro do the counter - we got corian.
Just did my bathroom as well.....if you need a tile guy I can recommend an awesome one - he goes all over Long Island - I also ahve a great sheetrock guy - but he only does Suffolk and Eastern Nassau. FM me if you are interested.
I would not recommend my plumber - he is good but way tooooo busy and he's always late., makes me crazy.
The electrician is good too - I would recommend him too.

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
we are in the process of doing our kitchen and it's taking about a month month and a half so far. We also had our floors done too, so that made it take longer. It can be a long process depending on your contractor and how quickly you pick your cabinets, countertops and backsplash (if you get one). So I would say at least a month depending who is doing it. GL!

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
We just finished the kitchen and it looks beautiful. We ordered the Kitchen Maid cabinets from Consumers Kitchen and Baths and also had them lay out the design. Then we had a company called Bathrooms Plus (ask for Al) do all of the demo, constructiona nd installation. He also got us our beautiful Silestone countertop and sealing on all the tiles including the backsplash. Everything was very reaonable. We got all of out appliances from PC Richards all stainless steel. We had a 20K budget and came in well underneath it.
Good Luck!!

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
We are looking into to right now. We had Lowes do a design and we are going to Think Kitchen in Huntington on Saturday for another design and price. We are planning on doing the demo, electric and plumbing ourselves (well my DH is!), so we have just been pricing cabinets, countertops and installation.

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
My FIL designed my kitchen.
He doesn't advertise and booked up 12 months in advance right now. The cabinets he sells are custom so it's more $$$ than most people here want to spend.
His main installer (contractor) is backlogged too or I'd recommend him.

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
I had a guy my friend recommended and he did everything for cheap. I designed it myself and got the cabinets from Weisman and they installed the granite countertop. It took about 2 weeks.

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
We had Consumers work on the kitchen with us, bought KraftMaid there and our contractor is installing them. We still have to choose the granite and the tiles for the backsplash.
Not sure how long it'll take. He said the entire renovation of our apartment will take about 3 weeks which means 4-5 weeks We are closing on Tuesday and start the demo on Oct. 10th. Will let you know how long it takes.

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
My husband designed it and installed it.. Once the cabinets arrived it doesn't take more then 5 days to have everything done that is including appliances.....
Custom kitchens where he build the cabinets, take much longer as anything custom!

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
We're using Ikea - they now have a company they work with who will come to your house, measure and design based n Ikea cabinets - for $150. You get $75 of it back when you order the cabinets.
Then you can also have Ikea install.
We called Wednesday, they are coming Monday to measure. Cabinets take up to 2 weeks to be delivered. Not sure how long it will be until they are installed.
All for under 10K - while using Consumers would have cost us 40K.

Re: Girls who redid their KITCHENS
We just gutted and redid out kitchen. We ordered our cabinets from Lakeville Industries in Lindenhurst. They came to our home and designed a layout. Our contractor was my friends uncle. He also recomended our floor guy, electrican, plumber etc. Everything came out great.
