irregular heartbeat while pregnant
I have been having what feels like flutters in my chest for a few days. I went to the cardiologist this morning, was diagnosed with a premature ventricular arrithmia (sp) Now we are trying to find out why its happening. I was wondering if anyone has had anything like this. They did say that sometimes when you are pregnant it is common to get irregular heartbeats, but until they know whats going on I am so nervous.

Re: irregular heartbeat while pregnant
I was having those last week. A lot- very annoying. I kind of ignored them. I had them years ago- not pregnancy related, the cardiologist checked for mitrovalve prolapse, but found nothing.... so whenever I get that feeling, I ignore it. Now I'm worried I have what you have... I'm gonna google it & call a dr. Feel better.

Re: irregular heartbeat while pregnant
Thanks for the heads-up. It's gone away, maybe I'll see if it comes back. I'm thinking if that didn't come up when I went to the cardio. thats not the cause? I've had ECGs done by my reg. doctor & the cardio did an echocardiogram and nothing has ever been irregular- did you have a different test than those? Actually they happened while I was hooked up to an ECG in the ER- nothing showed up? Rambling-sorry.

Re: irregular heartbeat while pregnant
I have developed a pregnancy related rhythm issue but mine stems from the sinus node, not the ventricles. My heartrate speeds up at random times for no reason. I had to go on a medication for it and we have to monitor the dose closely as my body changes with the pregnancy. One thing that really helped me was to get a second opinion from an electrophysiologist. They are cardiologists that specialize in rhythm issues. My cardiologist was the person who suggested that. FM if you need anything. I've been there and it is frustrating.

Re: irregular heartbeat while pregnant
I am still waiting for all the tests to be done. I had blood and an echocardiogram so far. I found out today that it could be related to the progesterone shots that I started 4 weeks ago at 16 weeks. So we stoped them for now and we will wait to see what happens. I feel a little better knowing that there could be a simple and likely reason.

Re: irregular heartbeat while pregnant
My HR in my 3rd trimester once went btw 130-162 BPM. They diagnosed me as being anemic and as soon as I got a blood transfusion it went down. There are varying reasons for an irregular HB. Goodluck!
