Dog Food
Question. I had the trainer at our house yesterday, and he suggested changing the brand of food that Tiny eats.
Right now Tiny has Mighty dog wet food. The trainer said to stop that completely. He said the wet food is so bad for the dog. Other than giving him more energy, which he doesnt need, it will give Tiny teeth of a 10 year old dog.
He also gets Natures Wellness dry dog food. The trainer says that is good food. He said to stick with dry food from now on.
He gave me 3 names to look into. Which of the 3 do you use and do you recommend? Thanks, Scott
Eukunuba(SP)?
IAMS
Science Diet

Re: Dog Food
Katie and Annie both take Science Diet Tiny bites.
Katie was originally on IAMs but we switched because it made her gassy.

Re: Dog Food
We use Iams without any problems for Daisy.
My MIL uses Science Diet for both her dogs.
I don't think you can go wrong.

Re: Dog Food
Personally, I would stick with the Nature's Wellness - if he eats it, there is no reason to change - especially not to an IAMs product of which both Eukanuba and Iams are....
And, he's right about the teeth - neither my cat or dog get wet food cuz it's really bad for their teeth.

ITA! I would leave his food alone if he likes it.

Start weaning him off the water - if you soften the dry food, it's not much better than the wet.
The reason being that the dry food cleans their teeth, while the wet actually sticks to their teeth and makes decay happen much more quickly.

Dogs also tend to overeat wet food.

Re: Dog Food
Honestly of all the ones mentioned I would just stick with the wellness dry.
I am not a fan of the Iams Euk, or SD. FM me if you want details.

Re: Dog Food
Our vet recommended Iams or Eukenuba.
We use Iams.
We were using Kibbles and Bits and my vet said that is basically Mcdonalds for dogs.

Re: Dog Food
I don't use any of the 3...I had them on it but Schultz had a gas problem with the Iams and the Science Diet..I know TMI...
On the vet's recommendation we switched to ProPlan and it took about 6 weeks of eating it and then the gas problem stopped. (Thank God!)

Re: Dog Food
I get Life's Abundance - ever since the dog food recalls started. I have it auto-shipped on a monthly basis.
I also wet the food a little so it expands BEFORE it gets in Scout's belly.

Re: Dog Food
Try a drizzle of olive oil on the dry food - great for their bones and coat, and makes it more appealing for them.
