PEOPLE
Someone SEVERELY smashed up the rear end of my sister's car today in Northport Village.
She works at the GAP down there, and the car was in the municipal lot (by the gazebo park) from about 2 - 6:45, and the WHOLE REAR END is smashed. All lights, the trunk is crinkled shut and can't open...the bumper is sliced in pieces...the tailpipe is bent downward....
OF COURSE: No note. Nothing at all! No witnesses.
By the "smash pattern", her car was definitely hit by a large truck (she drives a taurus), and it may have had a ball hitch on the back. (There's a HOLE in her license plate.) She was parked across from the dumpsters, so if today was garbage pickup, it may have even been a garbage truck.
Now she has an undrivable (is that even a word?) car... she JUST spent a couple hundred to fix something under the hood, and now this. It's easily a couple of thousand dollars worth of damage - maybe even totalled. She has insurance, but her deductible is pretty high, and she already has a chargable accident on her account, and is afraid that the rates will increase due to this claim.
She's soooo pisssssssed. The back end of her car is DESTROYED!
eta: she called Npt Village Police, and they came and took some pics. The officer said that he's not sure that the damage is fresh, and she may be trying to pull something. There was no glass/plastic under the car...which is totally weird. Unless the "smasher" picked up the damage??!

Re: PEOPLE
I hope that she called the police and filed a hit and run! I am sorry for her. I don't know if it's a hit and run if her rates will go up.

Re: PEOPLE
If she already has a chargeable accident her rates will definitely go up. Unless she has a police report showing that it was totally not her fault, it is chargeable

That does s*ck. For the record, my car was parked in the Northport train station all day. When we get our other car back that my SIL borrowed, I'll check it out for you

Re: PEOPLE
that's horrible, but to shed some light...I had my car hit in a parking lot and did not have my insurance company look at it for a few days, cause I was fearful that my rate would increase. I had no police report either. Geico told me because I was not in the car, it is not my fault. They cut me the check, and never had rates increased

Re: PEOPLE
Wow, I know how she must feel. I had that happen to me before and my car was deemed totalled. Only difference was that I did not have collision, I had liability only at the time, so Ins. co would not cover!
Someone actually left a note saying they witnessed it and it was a white truck and left the license plate. When police ran the plate, it didn't exist. It was just left to throw me off.
Very frustrating situation.

Re: PEOPLE
An accident that's not at fault or a hit while parked loss will not be a chargeable accident. So her rate will remain the same. That really does $uck for your sister!
