Newbie here

Hi everyone

Its about time I stop lurking and just come out of hiding already. I really admire everyone on this board for what they've been through and for what they're about to go through.

A little history. Both DH and I are 32. He is from Hicksville and I am from Queens. We recently moved to Dutchess County. We have a four year old son and its pretty ironic that he was conceived at a time when babies weren't even a thought for either of us. Fast forward to when he was nine months old and we assumed trying for a sibling would be a breeze. Well, April will be four years we are still trying. I've had four miscarriages during that time (13 weeks, 9 weeks, 7 weeks and one chemical). I was diagnosed with PCOS by Dr. Rosenfeld and did one cycle of Clomid before we moved. I am now with RMA in Westchester and have had one cycle of Clomid alone, 2 unsuccessful IUIs and will do our first attempt at IVF Oct/Nov.

What I never realized was how infertility can consume you even when you are fighting so hard against it not to. I know I am blessed to already have a child but I don't think that makes me any less deserving of a second (you don't know how many times family members/friends have said just be happy you have one). I am happy for crying out loud. It's having one that makes me want another so bad. I'm tired of hearing 'just relax it will happen'. I can't possibly relax any more than I've had. I don't have any close friends who have been down this road and I've been shutting myself out from them as of late because I'm just tired of trying to explain things. I'm also tired of feeling like I am going to fall apart at any second.

I'm sorry, this was not meant to be a pity party for myself! I hope to be a part of your board and feel like someone out there finally has a clue of what I'm feeling Chat Icon

Re: Newbie here

welcome I am new here too but not new to IVF I am finishing my fourth round now I am going for an egg retrieval this week...anyway I don't think that just because you have a child that you should not want for another...I think that you have every right to do exactly what you think that you can do for a child. I wish you the very best of luck...I also have PCOS and we have been trying for a few years for one child i got pg with twins this passed dec but lost one at 8 weeks and the other came too soon at 17 weeks so now we are trying again and hoping to god that it works...Infertility is nothing to be ashamed of it is something that all of us here on this board is dealing with and we are here to help each other get through this. And yes going through this can make you feel alone and disassocaited with friends as well as family I have turned down many family functions due to IVF it consumes your life. And it is OK to say no to baby showers I have had so many and I pick and choose which ones I go to and if I don't feel like going then I won't I am sure that I have made enemies along the way but that is too bad it happens and if they don't understand then they aren't your friends!!! anyway if you have any questions feel free to FM me I hear to listen...

Re: Newbie here

First, I am sorry for your losses...Was yoru sugar uncontrolled-meaning when they determined you had PCOS was yoru glucose very high? That is one thing that can cause recurrent miscarriage. If not, there is another reason for it. Effective treatment has been shown with a mixture of Folgard, baby asprin, prednisone and Lovenox or Heparin. Have you had the recurrent pregnancy loss panel? Your Dr should have tested you for this..

Re: Newbie here

Thank you all for the welcome.

Laurie, I was not diagnosed with PCOS based on a glucose test but rather with the appearance of my ovaries, the weight gain, acne and hidradenitis suppartiva, and irregular cycles. I am actually going for a fasting glucose test tomorrow with my internist. I had chromosome testing done on two of my miscarriages. My 13 week had triplody and my 9 week had nothing wrong, pathologically or with chromosomes. With my most recent miscarriage this summer, my new RE did karotyping on both my husband and I along with an autoimmune panel. Everything was fine with that as well. He did however say that my next pregnancy, if happens, I will start baby aspirin. I have been on Metformin XR for a year and a half as well and will continue to take up to 8 weeks of pregnancy. Should there be any other testing I should be asking for?

Re: Newbie here

after my first 2 IVF failures I was tested for blood clotting problems that have been known to go hand in hand with PCOS I have a MTHFR mutation that was blocking the embryos from attatching I was given foltx and baby aspirin to help and that is when I got pg I also had a problem with progesterone so this time I will be on it the while pregnancy where they took me off at 16 weeks

Re: Newbie here

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your losses and I wish you the best. Secondary infertility is just as painful. I'm sorry for all you've gone through and hope your stay here is short.

You seem to be pretty together, but if you have questions or concerns, we're here. Good luck to you Chat Icon
