Levitz Rant...long
I don't normally come on here and bash businesses but the more I think about this, the more it doesn't sit well with me.
My DH and I went looking for a dining room set today. We saw one at Levitz. On top of the table, the following is advertised...
5pc set $999 includes table, 2 side chairs and a bench seat
Arm chairs...$159
Side chairs...$139
Bench...$399
On back of this advertisement are listed the additional sets and the extra pieces. One set is a 9 pc set including table, 2 arm chairs, 4 side chairs, buffet and hutch for $2799. This is everything that we want. Levitz also has posted all over the store, 15% off any regular priced mechandise. So the saleman completely ignores us when we state we are interested in the 9 pc set. He claimed it couldn't come up in his system and isn't available but he can give us the following...
5 pc set for $999. Hutch and Buffet for $1400 Two arm chairs at $159 a piece for a total of $318.00 And he will let up switch out the bench for the 2 extra side chairs we want.
So the total from the salesman is $2717.00 I told him that I would prefer to buy the set not on sale and get the additional 15% off that is advertised in the window because it's less expense then the "sales" prices at $2379.15. We were told that it isn't available although clearly listed on the under all the information for this particular set along with prices. So I tell him I'm not buying the "sale" items as they really aren't on sale and there is no incentive at this time for me to close the deal.
We go further back in the store and they have all their outdoor sets on sale. They have this really nice 6 pc set set up for a very good price. It was set up as a daybed/couch, a sitting chair, a double chair with 2 ottomans and a table. So we ask about that and are told that the set up is not what is on sale; it doesn't include the couch but just another chair that is conveniently placed on the far side of the show area not even close to the advertised 6 pc set! As soon as the salesman told me that, I stated "I'm done" and stormed out of the store.
Is it just me, or does there seem to be some shady advertising going on?

There are a lot of things about Levitz that are shady. They do not stand behind their warranty.

BS it wouldn't come up in his system. He can change any prices/packages in the system.
But usually, when they have those sales, it doesn't apply to packages...
I used to work there (for Seamans/same company-they put them out of business and took all the $$) and YES, there is definitely some shady stuff going on there...
Can you tell I don't like them?

I bought a living room set from them 7 years ago and, while I didn't have any problems with pricing, customer service was a nightmare. I would never have anything to do with them again. Run, don't walk, as far away as possible.

i HATE levitz with a passion. my parents ordered a bunk bed set for my nephews and paid in full to have it delivered to my sisters house later that week. on the day that it was supposed to be delivered, my sister calls me and says she got a letter (A LETTER!!!!!) in the mail stating that the beds are out of stock and it will be available 2 months later. W T F?????? so i go down there (cause she's not a yeller but i am ) and tell them no way in hell are my nephews waiting 2 months and this should have been told to us when it was ordered and paid for! the store claimed to not be able to help us at all and told us to call customer service for a refund check.
well, long story short (too late ), it took almost 3 months of arguing just to get a store credit!!!!!!!
never again!!!!!

the best way to get something done is to go straight to corporate, although that doesn't always work either
I can't believe that company is still surviving

Levitz is not sitting well with us either.
We ordered a dining room set and when it was delivered it was all scuffed and marked up. So while the delivery man waited we called customer service. The delivery man was so mad that he had to end up taking my set back to the warehouse. On his way out he hit my brand new painted walls with the chairs. Well Levitz received a nice compliant from us and they gave us our delivery charge back, and a credit to the store. They came back to finally deliver my set and one chair again was scuffed. They just came back yesterday (3rd time) to swap the chair! After we use our credit that will probably be the last time we use them!

I agree - run, don't walk. Consider the shady sales dealings a sign of what's to come.
We have a nightmare Levitz customer "service" story as well - NEVER again!
