Pre-approval process
Hi...I called Chase to get pre-approved and they said they have a fee???? What gives?!
I see on HSBC's website that their pre-approval process is free. Can this all be done over the phone? How long does it take to get the pre-approval?
Thanks!

Re: Pre-approval process
Sorry, I used a Broker and they took care of it for me. If it helps any, there was no fees even using a Broker to get a pre-approval.
In less then 2 hours it was faxed to me.

Re: Pre-approval process
We didn't pay a pre-approval fee either through our bank.

We got pre-approved with Chase did not have to pay anything. and now are in the process of the actual mortgage process and all we had to pay was for the mortgage application. FM me if you want the # to the guy I'm using at Chase.. he is great!

Re: Pre-approval process
We used HSBC for our pre-approval and mortgage.
We went into the bank to meet with one of the mortgage handlers at the bank. We had to bring in our driver's licenses, W-2 statements from the past year and one month of current paychecks.
While there, they asked us about what collateral we had (other savings/CD accounts, etc) and they marked those down and asked if we had any loans needed to be paid off on a monthly basis (student loans, car payments) and they marked that down as well.
Within 24 hours, we had our pre-approval papers, but on that day, they told us what we could afford, what our tax bracket would be, etc.
We didn't have to pay for the pre-approval, but we had to pay a $300 fee when we put our pre-approval mortgage into effect by locking in a rate b/c we had an accepted bid on a house.
