*Whew* LOONNGGG
Wow- this is a great ending to a long and drawn out saga...
To start: My aunt (mom's much older sister) came to live with my parents when I was about 4. She's an adult autistic but very high functioning (Think RainMan but able to cook and clean and do basic house keeping skills..) She moved with us when we moved to LI and has been with my parents ever since. She has a small basement apartment at my parent's house....
My parents were looking to move. They want to retire and they bought a small condo on Cape Cod.. They had more trouble than they thought they would selling the house and it's been a huge issue. Luckily, they just got an offer and so far everything looks good..
My aunt has no desire to move to Cape Cod. She's very set in her ways and has a routine that she HAS to stick to otherwise she gets very upset. She goes to church and volunteers at the thrift shop and knows all the customers. etc.... You can see where the issue would be. The only other family she has is my uncle in Georga and he want's nothing to do with the situation..
My mother and I have been working FURIOUSLY to get her into the low income housing in Massapequa as she has no real income other than social security. The specific complex she wanted to get into had a 2 year wait. Well mom and I went to Peter Schmidt and all kinds of county execs because truthfully, everyone knows her. She walks EVERYWHERE (to and from the church. To and from the grocery store. everywhere) so finally, she got approved and they have an apartment available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My parent's are SO happy and she is just thrilled. It'll be her first time living on her own at almost 70 years old but she'll have a aide come in and check on her every day. And one of the people from our church is going to help her pay her bills (write her checks and stuff)...
This is such a relief for everyone..

That's wonderful. I remember when you posted that your uncle was being horrible about it.
