certified funds

We must pay at the closing with certified funds.

Now... silly question. Does this mean that the bank will give us a bank check that is certified, or do we go to the bank, write the check, and they certify it / stamp it?

I realize it's a silly question. I've gotten bank checks before, but never had to pay anything with a certified check before.

I know the difference between a certified and a non-certified check EXCEPT I don't know the procedure for obtaining one. Chat Icon I mean, I know I go to the bank... but then what. LOL

Re: certified funds

Okay. This what you do.

Go to the bank where you have the funds for them to withdraw the monies from.

Tell them you want a bank certified check (you will have to fill out a withdrawal slip with the amount of the check).

They will ask for your ID and ask who the check should be made out to and then they'll cut the check and you'll have to sign the slip that they print out and presto! you are ready to go!

I closed on my house on August 30th and almost threw up when I had to get my bank certified check! lol

Good luck!

Re: certified funds

I had a different experience than the above poster.

I went to the bank and said I needed a certified check.

I wrote the check out in the amount and gave them the fees they requested (in cash - they couldn't draw it out of my account directly which was weird) and they certified the check for me, they didn't write out a separate check.

Literally cash?

I feel like I'd need a bodyguard to walk around with that much cash. Chat Icon

No, just for the fee (it was like $10 or $20...) The large amount was part of the check...
