another Q about DH and Dr's appts...
For those DH's that go to the "regular" dr appts where they just weigh you and do the urine test, etc... why does he come? Especially if he has to take off of work or the appt is late in the evening... The appts are so quick and uneventful... Not judging, just curious...

Re: another Q about DH and Dr's appts...
My husband went to them during my first pregnancy. I scheduled my appointments before 9 am and the doctor was close to our apartment. You always got to hear the heartbeat which was fun. Plus I was so nervous about getting bad news (both the urine test and the blood pressure could give you instant bad news) that he was there just in case. This pregnancy he doesn't come because we've moved far from the doctor and I'm less nervous.

Re: another Q about DH and Dr's appts...
I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and DH has never missed one appointment. He wants to be included in everything, and he wants to get to know each of the doctors in my practice. Like the above poster said, a routine visit can turn into something scary pretty quickly (very elevated blood pressure, issue with baby's heartbeat, etc.), and neither of us would want me to be their by myself in the event that happened. Fortunately, we have had a very happy and uneventful pregnancy.
That being said, my DH does not take vacation time to come to my appointments. He does a combination of working from home and travelling for work. I schedule around his travel plans, and he takes his "lunch" during the time of my dr. appointments. If he worked in an office everyday it definately be different.

Re: another Q about DH and Dr's appts...
At every appointment that I have gone to in the past 38 weeks the doctor always uses the doppler to hear the baby's heartbeat. My husband comes because he wants to hear the baby's heartbeat, and also to make sure that my pregnancy is going well. I have really enjoyed having my husband with me, and he enjoys coming to the appointments.

My appts are after 5 and we are both home.
He just wants to be supportive and this is his way of showing it.

To meet all the doctors, to hear the heartbeat, to be another set of ears when hearing the doctor's advice/results of lab tests, to hold my hand b/c this is our first and a very exciting time for us. He wants to be involved.

You hit it all on the head!
We had a couple of scary visits, so don't like going alone. I went to one alone and hated it (and it was just to get blood work results), so I try to move the appointments to accomodate DH schedule. I can't expect him to take off to come to the general visits, but the sono ones, he makes sure he is there!

Re: another Q about DH and Dr's appts...
My DH tried to come to every appt when we were pregnant with our 1st baby. Just like the other posters said, he wanted to be supportive and involved and wanted to hear the heartbeat and anything the dr had to say. I have to say that I loved having him there. Just made me more at ease.

Re: another Q about DH and Dr's appts...
This will be DH's 3rd child, he has two boys from his first marriage. He was in the Marines during both those pregnancies and births and he missed everything. He really wants to be as involved as he can. Anything I have to do,pregnancy related, he wants to be there.
