has anyone gotten a uti
i am a little scard i am 16w4days and i went to the doctors tuesday and she told me that i have a uti. i would have never know because i have no pains what so ever. she told me to take cranberry pills the rest of my pg so i will not get them anymore. has anyone else gotten it while being pg. i am just scard

I actually posted about this few days ago...My dr. called me on Monday to say I had a uti also...and I had no symptoms...they put me on antibiotics. Apparently its common during pregnancy because your uterus can lie against the bladder causing not all the urine to empty from your bladder which makes it more susceptible to infection. But if it isnt treated it can get serious. I would make sure that the dr. actually sent out a urine culture, taken the proper way(with wiping front to back with an antiseptic pad) directly into a sanitary sealed container. Otherwise it could just be a contaminated specimen.

she told me she was sending it out. i didnt have to wip myself with a antiseptic pad. i just had to pee in the sanitary sealed container. should i be a little worried that they did do it the way you explained. she said she didnt want to put me on antibiotics she just wanted me to take cranberry pill the rest of my pg.

i had one at about 10 weeks. I was upset, but I have heard that it can be common. They gave me an antibiotic... I wasn't thrilled about taking it, but I'm sure it was safe. Now I'm drinking cranberry jiuce ALL the time - I'm determined not to get another one! Feel better.

I think I may have one now bc of some pain I am having. Anyway, they are sending out my specimen today and I will prob have to go on antibiotics.

I posted on the thread the other day. I had one at 17weeks and didn't know. I was peeing more then usual but thought it was a pregnancy thing. I have been drinking cranberry juice everymorning for the past decade to prevent them. Sometimes it just happens. I was put on Macrobid (sp?) 2x a day for 7 days and it cleared it right up. Now I can go an hour or so without having to find a bathroom.

I've had two during my pregnancy and I never get them when I'm not pregnant so go figure.

I had 2 - one in my 2nd trimester, one in my third. I was giving Macrobid and everything was fine.

Im not sure. I would think that if you had a bacteria that they would need an antibiotic to kill the bacteria. Probably what happened is that they dip sticked it in the office and found a bacteria and now they are sending it out to find out which specific bacteria. Probably when they get the results back they will prescribe an antibiotic. Certain antibiotics are for certain bacterias so it doesnt really make sense to give an antibiotic if they dont know the specific bacteria(thats what my kidney dr said). If they are sending it out then I would wait a few days and call them if you havent heard back from them. I went to the dr. on a Friday and found out I had one the following Monday and started antibiotics then... Good Luck!

I actually got a call today that I have a UTI. I also don't have symptoms, I mean I pee alot, but I think that's just from pregnancy. Anyway I have to pick up an antibiotic today. Hopefully it is no big deal. I think I got mine because I was using progesterone suppositories. I had some itching & burning when I urinated when I started them.
