They desecrated a childhood icon!!!!
Monopoly!!!
Did you see this commercial?
It's monopoly... with electric banking!!! 
no paper money - everyone has a calculator thing that acts as a card machine, and everyone has these monopoly credit cards....
Forget about taking away counting skills from our next generation (I was so bad at math, but loved monopoly, so this helped me so much in my childhood) but ... what are they doing to such a classic game?
What next? Cell phone pieces instead of the horse, dog, etc?

Yes I saw this last night. I will continue to use the "old way". I think it is kind of sad actually, I agree that it does help kids/people with math while making it fun. Something they should just leave alone.

Are they going to add other "modern issues"?
The bank declares bankruptcy, and you have to pay your mortgage immediately?
The bank doesn't want your mortgage anymore, so it forecloses on you?
Balloon mortgages?
We have an "old-school" version, which we will be keeping, and using when DC get a little older...

Hahaha they should have variable rate mortgages. Every 5 times that you pass go it resets to a new interest rate.

That is horrible!
I can't believe they did that.
It is bad enough that many kids today rely on a calculator to do anything and can't do simple math.
Very sad.

Actually, I think the anniversary edition does have a cell phone piece! It's all stuff from this day and age- a Starbucks Cup... Laptop... can't remember what else!

My 7 year old nephew loves to play with monopoly money, that is the whole fun part of the game for him, I don't think he will go for the electronic version

That was exactly what I was thinking when I read this! It was so easy to cheat when you were the banker, at least this would make it a more honest game!
I still don't like the idea though, it takes the way the advantage of teaching kids how to count money, and I will definitely still play the "classic" version!

are you sure they didnt? lol its crazy, but this is what appeals to kids these days... They dont want to do the work, they want it done for them.. Personally i thought the money was the best part as a kid, i remember us all fighting over who got to be the banker.

that's nuts...
also, did you hear that they have created "faster" versions of games like Sorry, Monopoly, Parcheeesi, etc. Basically the way they're set up now is for the game to be over in about 20 minutes.
No wonder kids are so over-indulged and over stimulated and have NO attention spans. We sat there and played until someone won...not stopping after 20 minutes because we're bored. it's crazy...

As for the "new" game. That's sad.

Last night my nephew and I and my niece was playing spiderman monopoly and he loved counting the money and it was 'great' seeing my 5 year old niece trying to do the same.... they are ruining the 'MEANING' of monopoly and the joy of watching the kids learn about money through this game.I love monopoly and i agree they should 'NOT' have changed it, i will not buy the new one, it takes the fun out of it.
