LIRR question

Would you pay extra for a ride that was cell phone free?

(Meaning you enter a car where talking on the phone is prohibited).

Re: LIRR question

While I'd love to pay to sit in peace, I wouldn't pay extra at all! It's just a little common courtesy.

No, occasionaly I need to use my phone too ( although briefly).

If someone is annoying me, I just listen to my Ipod.

ETA- the railroad costs enough as it is!

No. That's why iPods were invented.

No, I wouldn't pay extra to have a cell phone free train ride. There will still be people yapping away and being loud.

Although I repeatedly make the quiet car suggestion to LIRR. The general response from them is that 70-80% of riders want to be able to use their cell phone. The quiet car, like Amtrak has, would actually be quiet - soft talking, no cell phone use, etc.

I have an iPod, and I use it. How loud am I supposed to make it without going deaf though?!? Some people just do not understand the concept of inside voice.

Re: LIRR question

It depends on how much.

$5... sure, it's basically a drop in the bucket at this point. But $20, no way. I can tune out all the cell phone chatter with my iPod and to be honest, most people aren't talking away on their cell phones all that much... just the random person every now and again... the ride is usually very quiet.

Oh totally. But I can tune out just about anything if the music's good!

Re: LIRR question

In a cell-phone free car, would people still be able to talk to each other? If so, it would defeat the purpose of the no-cell-phone rule (unless it was a "quiet car" like Christine mentioned). Then, you have two people talking loudly, instead of just one! Chat Icon At least with cell phones, you occasionally get a break when the person on the other end of the line is talking....

I wouldn't pay extra, no.

On the Hampton Jitney you are only supposed to use your phone for 3 minutes total on the whole trip. When I used to take it frequently they used to enforce it.

And the Jitney costs more than the train to the Hamptons.
