I'd think it was a bit odd to get a "I'm pregnant" announcement in the mail. Seems like something that should be shared directly.

My husband is in the military and we couldn't see any of our family members in person so we sent an anoucement. I see nothing wrong with doing it!

Ive never heard of it before, but why not, you send out announcements when your engaged so, why not a baby... I would just wait until you get over the major pregnancy hurtles, and not send to early.

I'm 11 wks tomorrow - I wouldn't send them before my 12 wk mark. I'm still debating if it's weird, like Calla suggested.

That's not the intention at all. I would never expect a gift b/c I'm pregnant (or for any other reason). I just was looking for a cute way to share my news. I think the group e-mail is just as impersonal but I get engagement annoucements like that all the time.

I wouldn't send out announcements in the mail. We did them to DH's family via email. We took a picture of our dog wearing a sign that said "I'm going to be a big sister" and emailed it to his family.
I don't really agree with the pp who said it is like an engagement announcement, those are usually some type of "save the date" for a wedding, so doing this could come across like it is a "save the date" for the birth and a gift, KWIM. And since that is NOT your intention, I wouldn't do it.

I don't like the idea for many reasons. I feel that you are jumping the gun sending an announcement. People will find out in due time that you are pregnant even without an announcement.
