cramping and tightening?

I'm about 38 1/2 weeks...since yesterday i've been having a lot of menstrual like cramps and have been getting a tightening sensation from time to time...sometimes the cramps are worse then others but there is no real patteren to them. I called the dr for peace of mind and they said that its not real labor until there is a pattern.

do u think this is an early labor sign?

I have been experiencing the same thing since last night. I am pregnant with twins and I am in my 36th week. I called my dr's office this morning and they told me to take tyelonol. I told them my dr is always concerned with preterm labor so they made an appointment for me at noon....needless to say my pains are a little less but not everyones labor is the same...I would keep an eye on it and if you are not comfortable with their answer call again....You never know.

i have been having frequent contractions (every few minutes) since 25 weeks, and over the past week or so they have been much more painful, like really bad menstrual cramps that radiate to my back and thighs. still no real pattern or cervical changes, though, so for me it's all "false labor".

in general, if there's no pattern or worsening of the contractions then it's probably false labor. and since you're so far along, your OB will probably not do anything about it... but any minute false labor can turn into true labor, so i would keep track of the contractions.

I've been having the same as alexlynn but only since week 30 I guess. I'm 35 weeks now and mine don't have a pattern either. Call the doc to put yourself at ease and feel better!

thanks ladies I've been keeping track of them all morning...they are about 1/2 to 40 min apart...hopefully they will get closer and closer together

Normal.. unless there is a pattern, it is just your body preparing for labor eventually

Did you have an internal yesterday? I had that after mine ... I think he stripped me a bit but I'm not sure, he didn't say he was going to.

I've also had menstrual type cramps afterwards, off and on throughout the night. I even had dream I got AF!! I think its just our bodies getting ready.
